Sergt McKenzie, 78th Regt
- Inverness
I am tracing the McKenzie( or some generations Mac)side of my family. We have a wonderful antique presentation piece - a snuff horn chased in silver and engraved "to Sergt McKenzie by the 78th Regt 1818". This started my hunt by which I have solid connections all associated with Inverness town and closeby, back as far as the generation before my target. I am looking for the father of Donald MacKenzie, born Kirkhill 1794, jeweller with an address in High St Inverness , married to Margaret MacGillivray from Haugh in 1830. He could be William MacKenzie, the son of John MacKenzie and Mary McLean of Drumchardine and baptised in Inverness along with his twin Kenneth in 1760, but I am missing direct evidence for the father/son relationship between William and Donald.
I have tried for details of the 78th from Fort George and the QOH and havent got far with the National Archive either. Can anyone help?

McDonald, Donald Duncan
- Inverness
Looking for my grandfather, Donald Duncan McDonald. Information on my fathers birth entry shows Donald Duncan came from Inverness, Invernessshire, Scotland. He was 45 years old when my father, Allan Carson McDonald was born, on 6 March 1898, in Ashburton, NZ, so birth year for Donald Duncan would be c1853. Information on Presbyterian orphanage records, Dunedin, NZ, dated 27 October 1908 indicate Donald Duncan deserted my father 6 years previously, which would be c1902. I cannot find a record of Donalds marriage to Elizabeth Carson, which is recorded on my fathers birth certificate, as 1 June 1897 at Wellington, NZ, interestingly, 9 months before my fathers birth.

My great grandfather - Donald McPherson was born in Kilmonivaig in (I believe)1835. I have found details of his wife, Jane Richmond her parents and siblings and I think I have most of his children's names, but any further information about Donald eludes me. I think he was a gamekeeper. The family was Roman Catholic. It would be good to know who his parents were, or if he had any siblings. The family seems to have lived around the Boleskine/Abertarff area.

Missing Parish records?
- Kilmorack
From census records, I have found that Ann(e) MacDonald was born in Kilmorack abt 1824. However, searches in the parish record indexes show no birth records for any MacDonald families between about 1815 and 1840 in this parish. Neither are there any marriage records. Does anyone know if these records are missing, or were there no MacDonalds marrying or giving birth during that time in Kilmorack?
Ann MacDonald married Alexander Ramsay from Boleskine abt 1844 and lived in Nairn until about 1865, later moving to Tain.
I have lots of information about Ann and Alexander's descendants and Alexander's ancestors, (which I am very happy to share) but I know nothing about the MacDonald connection. Can you help with any details? Thanks in anticipation
