Alan Greig Crichton 1930 - Aberdour
Alan Greig Crichton was born to Peter Crichton, serving in the RAF at the time, and Ruth (nee Johnston) in Easter Aberdour, Fife, on May 8th, 1930. He died in Dunfermline in 1984. Alan grew up in the household of May Lilian Atkins who died in Scotland in 1963. I am Peter Crichton's grandson and am undertaking this research together with my cousins. Any information about my uncle's family for the period in question will be gratefully received and treated with the utmost discretion.

Ruth Crichton (nee Johnston) - Aberdour
Seeking descendants/relatives of Ruth Crichton (nee Johnston), b. Glasgow 1893; married Peter Crichton from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in Glasgow, 1917; son Gordon S Crichton born Durban, South Africa, 1920. Ruth and Peter were separated and Ruth returned to Scotland during the early 1920s to live with her mother, Helen Johnston (nee Campbell). Helen Johnston is believed to have been living in Millport at the time. Helen Johnston died in Dunblane in 1941 and was survived by daughters Helen Torrie, Edith Smith (formerly Laing) and Ruth Crichton. Ruth Crichton was still living in Scotland in 1950, but is likely to have relocated since her death is, apparently, not recorded in Scotland. Ruth is believed to have had a a daughter, also born in South Africa, named Lucille or Lorraine. Ruth is believed to have been talented in Highland and traditional dancing. Ruth and Peter Crichton managed a dance studio while they were together in Durban, Natal, South Africa at the start of the 1920s. Other names connected to this family listed below. I am searching for information about William Hall Ramsay b abt 1848 possibly in Newhaven midlothian, he married Georgina Darney of Kinghorn Fife on 27 oct 1875, d 12 may 1887. his son Robert darney Ramsay was killed at the battle of Jutland in 1913 on his memorial his parents last place of residence was Dysart. William was a factor on an estate i believe in the Dysart area but I cannot find him on the census of 1880. he is purported to have died in a yact accident on the Firth of Forth, but again I cannot find any death notices to that affect. If any one has any information I would be grateful

Dr John Shoolbred. Baptised Auchtermuchty, Fife, 13th March 1766. Died Cheltenham, England, 12th October 1831. He was employed initially as a ship's surgeon and subsequently as an increasingly senior surgeon in the Presidency National Hospital in Bengal. In 1804-5 the issue of vaccination - specifically against smallpox which was a virulent menace in the subcontinent at this time - was stirring passions in the Bengali presidency. John Shoolbred was the signatory of a declaration of the Native Inoculators in favour of Vaccine Inoculation and published for general information. His title was given as Suptd. General of Vaccine Inoculation. Married Calcutta, November 1801 Lucy Rand. His uncle, John (another one) Shoolbred 1740 - 1801 was a prosperous merchant with descendants in many corners of the Anglosphere including South Carolina. I'd welcome the chance to exchange information on the Shoolbreds from Auchtermuchty.

John Gregor Duncan born here in 1818 married Catherine Suttie (b.1823) in 1848. Both died in Lochgelly. His parents James Duncan and Jane Johnston. Hers Alexander Suttie and Helen Christie. So far only got two children for John and Catherine, they were James 1851 and Jane 1854. Jane born in Auchterderran, prob James also. James Duncan moved on to be schoolmaster at Fala, Midlothian where he can be picked up on that site.

His mother and brother (Tom?) also emigrated to Australia. He and his wife lived in Toowoomba and later Wellington Point, Queensland, Australia. Killed in Darwin during Cyclone Tracy Christmas 1974.

A biography of John Pattison in the c. 1896 issue of the Cyclopedia of New Zealand lists a John Pattison who was born c. 1831 in Burntisland. Parents were William Pattison and probably Margaret Peattie, both born c. 1812 in Elie, Fife. John arrived in NZ c. 1859 via the Australian goldfields. Any information about his origins would be greatly appreciated.

I have encountered two forebears who are listed as having been born in Hollnad but British citizens. My father said they had come to Ayrshire from Burntisland and married into our family. The surname was Decoque. Any ideas as to how I would research this? I have now established that they came from Middleburg, Zeeland NL and their name was deKok Initially one of them married a William Sloan from Ochiltree The marriage took place in Holland. They immigrated to Nova Scotia. I am hoping to make contact with distant Watson family members on behalf of my brother-in-law. I am also interested in expanding my knowledge re John Scott (born 1845 to James Scott and Margaret Cunningham)and Jane Brand (born 1840 to Smart Brand and Isabella Wilson).
