MeLellans of Closeburn
- Closeburn
Does anyone have knowledge of the birth and parentage of George McLellan (McClellan), born in Closeburn parish around 1818? I've determined he is NOT the child George born to James McLelland and Jean McGumary (Montgomery) in Dalgano Gate on June 13, 1814. NOR is he the George born to John McClelland and Jean Hunter in Park on Sept 24, 1814. NOR is he the child George Creighton born to John McClellan and Margaret Hunter in Park on Aug 15, 1816. (These last two Georges died as children). So presumably the birth of "my" George was not registered -- and I'm trying to determine if he could possibly be a child of David McClellan and his wife Sarah Fraser of Park. This couple registered 3 of their children in Closeburn (William 1808; Jean 1810; and Matthew 1812), but did not register other known offspring: David b. abt 1806, died Dalswinton, Kirkmahoe 1851; John b. abt 1815, d. Glaston, Ayrshire 1872 (spouse Margaret Mason Young); Sarah b. abt 1823, d. Glaston, Ayrshire Nov 1872 (spouse George Bowie); Helen b. abt 1820, d. Nov 1869 Kirkconnel Village (spouse Walter Black); Alexander b. abt 1819, d. Sept 1895 Thornhill (spouse Jane Johnstone); Jane b. abt 1812, d. Oct 1872 (spouse William Blacklock - Glenriddle, Glencairn); and James b. abt 1824, married 24 Aug 1855 to Jannet Colville of Ochiltree, Ayrshire; daughter Janet born Nov 1855 (James, Janet and their infant daughter may have emigrated to New York in May 1856). If you have any knowledge of these people, I'd be very interested in hearing from you.

Looking for any information on the Woodmas or Stewart families. Mary Woodmas born c 1837, father Robert, originally from Dumfries married Norman Stewart, date of birth unknown, also from the Dumfries area, they both travelled to London where a daughter, Mary, was born c1858, Norman Stewart believed to be a dock worker.
