Frederick Hope Pattison (late of the 33rd Regiment of Foot), Widower of Janet Park, died 22nd April, 1875 in Mountblow. I believe he was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire about 1790. He fought at Quatre Bras & Waterloo and accompanied his regimentto Paris during the subsequent occupation. He retired as a Lieutenant on half pay on 18th March 1821. In 1868, more than 50 years after the battles, he recorded his memories in a series of letters to his grandchildren. In 1870 he published them ina book. My Grandfather was named after this gentleman, and I have no idea why? Frederick Hope Pattison STIRLING was born in Aug 1894. His parents were Robert STIRLING and Martha HART who married in 1885 in Bridgeston, Glasgow. Martha's father, Walter, was born in Old Kirkpatrick. Mountblow was near Old Kirkpatrick Railway Station so this may give a clue to the connection. Can anybody help.

Fletcher, born New Kilpatrick c 1791.
- Old Kilpatrick
When 21 yo William Fletcher enlisted in the British Army in 1814 he gave his place of birth as 'in or near the town of Glasgow', his age as 21 and profession as printer. The only William Fletcher baptised near Glasgow around 1791/2 was at New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire on July 3, 1791, the son of John Fletcher and Janet King Leitch. In 1826, during his military service in India, William married Mary Anne Reeves (b East Sheen, Surrey 1802) in Cawnpore, Bengal presidency. They had 7 known children, including 4 in India (Elizabeth 1828, William Chisholm 1830, John 1833 and Sarah Matilda 1837) and 3 baptised at St Bride's Fleet St London (Christina Elizabeth 1839, Ann Sophia 1845, Alfred James 1848). In the 1851 census father William was a bookbinder (Chelsea pensioner) and most of the children were bookbinders or bookfolders in the St Bride's district. If we've got the right William Fletcher, his forebears have a rich history which we'd love to compare and share with other descendants.
Best wishes,
Tom, Melbourne
