Would appreciate any background to Captain David Brodie who was one of the developers with John Sinclair of Sarclet as a fishing village in the early 1800s. He was originally from Morayshire but apparently remained in Caithness for some years thereafter and may have connections with other Brodies living in the County

John Mackay married Ann Thomson at Dunnet July 31st 1854. She was a widow previously married to William Brotchie who probably died at sea. John and Ann had several children - Anne, Erskine,Donald, Barbara, and my great grandfather John. Both parents died as paupers at Ratter and are buried in Dunnet churchyard. I would be glad to hear from any other descendants.

The information I have is that he was born in 1700, he was married to Christian Sutherland, (Nee Manson) who was born in 1704 and they had a son called Hector born about 1726. He married a Barbara Riess, they may have settled in Olrig near Thurso in Caithness.

The 1861 census records Christina Abby as coming from the Olrig area and family legend has it that she came from Thurso/Wick. She was born about 1829 and married John Aitken in Glasgow about 1855 and left for Australia in the 1860s. Any information on Christina, her relatives and forebears would be welcome, plus advice as to how she might have travelled from Caithness to Glasgow in the 1850s.

Donald ANGUS(1843-?)was born in Thurso to William ANGUS (1780-1869) and Isabella HENDERSON. Donald married Margaret MANSON (1841-1879) in 1868 in Edinburugh and had issue of Christine (1869), Isabella(1871), Margaret Jane (1872), Elizabeth Ann (1873), Christine (1875)and William (1877) before Margaret died in 1879 in West Harlepool, Durham. Only the youngest two children, Christine and William, survived infancy.

Can anyone help. He is my great grandfather. Occupation Tailor He had 4 children with Jemima Morrison/Farquahar. Isobel d.o.b 1901, Peter d.o.b 1905, Donald d.o.b 1906 and Jemima (known as Mimi) d.o.b. 1907.It would appear that Peter , although unmarried, Jemima and he were never married but Peter is on both boys' birth certificates as the father , they are both registered as illigitimate. Cannot find birth records for Isobel or Mimi. Would love to find out this mystery.

My great grandmother was Janet Murray, daughter of David Murray and Janet Brotchie. Another member is looking for details about Donald who was my great grandmother's brother and he married Sophia Polson. Donald was born 4th June, 1813. They had issue (not named on the chart). He died in ? London. My grandfather Alexander Murray was a collector of family history..he died in 1914 in Scotland, long before I was born. He wrote down all the siblings , mariages , no issue or issue and usually where died. David's ancestry goes back another two generations. Some of his entries are not in the parish registers but as Alexander was born in 1841 I assume he would have known all these people and their details. Would love to exchange information. Janet .
