Stewart - Wee Cumbrae - Millport
I am looking for any information about my GGF, Alexander Stewart. The only information I have is that he was an assistant lighthouse keeper on the Wee Cumbrae from 1908-1909. I have tried the records of the Clyde Lighthouse Trust at the Mitchell Library but they do not have them for that time period. I think his wife and numerous children probably lived in Millport, but I do not know her name or where they/she came from.

Crichton - Johnston
- Millport
Seeking information re my grandmother, Ruth Crichton nee Johnston, last known to be living in Millport during the early 1950s. Ruth was married to Peter Crichton of Glasgow, Scotland; Durban and Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Their son, before they separated, was my father, Gordon Stuart Crichton, b.1919, who spent some time with his mother, sister and grandmother Johnston in Millport before spending the remainder of his childhood in Port Elizabeth. He served in the Royal Navy on an armed merchant cruiser during World War II and spent much of his adult life in the South African Navy. Gordon lost contact with his mother and sister in Scotland during the 1950s when he was in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) following his separation from my mother, Jill Crichton nee Jennings.
Any assistance gratefully appreciated as I shall be visiting Millport later this year and wish to visit my grandmother's last resting place.

JOHN DONALD HARPER - Rothesay
John Donald Harper, born 01.09.1928 in Rothesay to Alexander and Annie, died peacefully on 16th January 2004. He had been in hospital since November and had a leg amputated. It was obvious that he was going to lose the other leg and we are sure that he decided that he wasn't going to lose his independence as well so he refused all medication or treatment. His sister, Margaret and his step-children and step-grandchildren visited him regularly until the end. He is very sadly missed by us all and remained to the bitter end a funny, loving, cantankerous old bugger!!!
