|Looking for long-lost Woods relatives - (Kilwinning - Ayrshire)
I've been researching my Dad's family history for his 70th birthday and have made enormous strides, tracing his paternal grandmother's family to Northern Ireland and Kilwinning. We are descended from John and Susanna Woods who were married in Co. Armagh in 1853, before moving to Kilwinning sometime between 1860 and 1864. My great grandmother, Elizabeth Woods, was their 9th child. I've been able to trace what happened to 6 of the other 8, but Mary Jane Woods (b. about 1858 in N. Ireland) and Thomas (b. about 1862, also in N. Ireland) are a mystery to me. I lose her after the 1871 census... and he, after he was a witness for his brother James, at his wedding in 1883 or 1884. I would love to find out what happened to Thomas and Mary Jane... and hear from the descendents of their siblings... William John, James, Annie, Maggie, Sarah Orr and Susanna. I know Susanna's family, like my own, is in the States... but I suspect the rest are still in Scotland... and would love to find my cousins! Thanks so much!

Would be interested to hear any corroborating evidence or details of marriages of any of the siblings of William Ross about whom I have little detail. Also I have not been able to track down for definite the birth and parentage of Hamilton Ross. I think he is the son of Hugh Ross as I havean old family tree which gives him a much younger brother, David (who married Margaret Graham in 1845), and A Hugh Ross was the father of both Hamilton and this David by different women. David was from Elizabeth Mill and Hamilton from Elizabeth McCaw - I think. Would be grateful for any help on this this.

|Farquhar family - Ayrshire, Glengall Asylum - (Laigh Glengall - Ayrshire)
My great (x6) grandparents were Hugh FARQUHAR and Jean WILSON, both born c1726 in New Cumnock, Ayrshire. They had a son, John FARQUHAR, born c1751 in New Cumnock who married Jean STEELE, born c1752 perhaps in Ayrshire. John and Jean had 3 sons, all born in Riccarton, Ayrshire, William (c1768), John (c1771), and Robert (c1780). William, who was my great (x4) grandfather married Janet ALEXANDER, born c1770 in Ayrshire. They were married in St Quivox & Newton, Ayrshire, in 1792, and they had 9 children (7 female, 2 male), all of whom were born in St Quivox & Newton: Margaret (c1793), Janet (1795), Flora (1797), Helen (1800), Jean (1802), Agnes (my great x3 grandmother 1803), Mary (1805), Alexander (1807) and Allan (1808). Mary married James MCKERROW, born c1805 in Cumnock, and they had a son, William MCKERROW, who was born in 1847 in Wales and married Annie PICKLES from Yorkshire. James MCKERROW died in 1881 in Pontypool, so I guess thats possibly where William was born. Agnes FARQUHAR, my great x3 grandmother married John YOUNG in 1826 in Ayr. John YOUNG was a Supervisor of Excise, and he died in 1878 in St Quivox. Agnes FARQUHAR died in an asylum in Glengall, Ayr, in 1881. They had 3 children, Janet (1827), Grace (1833, Ayr), and Allan (my great great grandfather c1842).
Does anyone have any relevant information, or can I assist anyone who is researching the same people? In particular, does anyone have any info on the asylum at Glengall (which I believe is now part of Ailsa Hospital in Ayr)

|Hyndman - (Largs - Ayrshire)
Henry Hyndman (1755-1803) is the central ancestor to a large family with a big history. I know that his mother was Elizabeth Hunter of Hunterstown, but I am really trying to trace his father's family and the surname.
Has anyone encountered Hyndman from Largs?
It seems that his father John may be the "merchant" and mariner John that settled there from Renfrewshire however I am missing evidence of Henry's birth that might prove this.
Henry had a house called Springside at West Kilbride. When he died at sea in 1803 he left it to his wife Sarah Blair. I have located Springside on an old 1800 map.
He also had a business and a house at Largs that he gave his sister Rebecca to live in to death or marriage whichever came first.
Henry had been a soldier all his life but I think he was something of an entrepreneur in India on the side. He also had two sons and a previous marriage that it is hard to say if his wife knew existed. I can't work out if he was a rogue or an interesting adventurer. I want to find out what sort of business he had and would love to locate the house at Largs. I'd also like to find out if his wife did actually look after the interests of the young man in India called Henry.
This son became a founder of a family that had a large part in building British business at Hong Kong, and their work has in some small way helped to shape global finance as we know it. Despite this perhaps not being the best thing that ever happened, I think it would be wonderful to find that Henry had bankrolled the joint.
I am kind of joking here but any advice would be helpful I think. I also have quite an amount of information on Henry, and his Ilk, should anyone be researching.
