Ross Family
- Kirkoswald
Have found several generations of Ross in Kirkoswald beginning with Hamilton Ross who married Agnes Ramsay in 1825 at Barr. Their six children were Margaret, James, Agnes, William, Marion and Martha. William Ross, born 1835 and died in 1920 at 85 wasmy great-greatgrandfather(William Ross m Marion Ross -Agnes Ramsay Ross b 1865 m Joseph Johnson, Dorothy Johnson b1897 d 1981 m Alan Charles Ward b1929- Alan Ross Ward m Kathleen Gleeson - me born in 1963!!!) Would be interested to hear any corroborating evidence or details of marriages of any of the siblings of William Ross about whom I have little detail. Also I have not been able to track down for definite the birth and parentage of Hamilton Ross. I think he is the son of Hugh Ross as I havean old family tree which gives him a much younger brother, David (who married Margaret Graham in 1845), and A Hugh Ross was the father of both Hamilton and this David by different women. David was from Elizabeth Mill and Hamilton from Elizabeth McCaw - I think. Would be grateful for any help on this this.

Farquhar family - Ayrshire, Glengall Asylum
- Laigh Glengall
My great (x6) grandparents were Hugh FARQUHAR and Jean WILSON, both born c1726 in New Cumnock, Ayrshire. They had a son, John FARQUHAR, born c1751 in New Cumnock who married Jean STEELE, born c1752 perhaps in Ayrshire. John and Jean had 3 sons, all born in Riccarton, Ayrshire, William (c1768), John (c1771), and Robert (c1780). William, who was my great (x4) grandfather married Janet ALEXANDER, born c1770 in Ayrshire. They were married in St Quivox & Newton, Ayrshire, in 1792, and they had 9 children (7 female, 2 male), all of whom were born in St Quivox & Newton: Margaret (c1793), Janet (1795), Flora (1797), Helen (1800), Jean (1802), Agnes (my great x3 grandmother 1803), Mary (1805), Alexander (1807) and Allan (1808). Mary married James MCKERROW, born c1805 in Cumnock, and they had a son, William MCKERROW, who was born in 1847 in Wales and married Annie PICKLES from Yorkshire. James MCKERROW died in 1881 in Pontypool, so I guess thats possibly where William was born. Agnes FARQUHAR, my great x3 grandmother married John YOUNG in 1826 in Ayr. John YOUNG was a Supervisor of Excise, and he died in 1878 in St Quivox. Agnes FARQUHAR died in an asylum in Glengall, Ayr, in 1881. They had 3 children, Janet (1827), Grace (1833, Ayr), and Allan (my great great grandfather c1842).
Does anyone have any relevant information, or can I assist anyone who is researching the same people? In particular, does anyone have any info on the asylum at Glengall (which I believe is now part of Ailsa Hospital in Ayr)

Mccubbin Innkeeper/provost/farmer

My Mccubbin family came to Maybole from Dailly as weavers in or about 1790. They moved about a bit within the area and lived at Dalmellington and Straiton for a while but returned to Maybole for several generations. John born 1871 Dalmellington was Provost of Maybole and succeeded his father as landlord of the now demolished Kings Arms - originally a coaching inn.His Brother William farmed Lochlands farm and that farm saw 3 generations of McCubbin. Would love to hear from the Cowan Family
- Maybole
Names researching Cowan, McCutcheon, Crosbie, McIlwrick, McFarland
These are my queries, if anyone has some spare time and can help with any useful information I would be extremely grateful.
My details are as follows:-
My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas Cowan (father John) who married Margaret McCutcheon (father John) on 11 Nov 1847 at Newtownards County Down, Ireland. It would appear that Thomas was born approx 1827 Drumlee, Drumgooland, County Down Ireland, and Thomas Cowan died in Beithin 26 Mar 1808 and Margaret was born approx 1829 at Drumawhy, Newtownard, County Down, Ireland and died 21 Feb 1882 at New Stables Culzean, Kirkoswald. On Thomas's Death Certificate it states his parents were William Cowan and Agnes (nee Tingle) whereas his Marriage Certificate says his father was John (no mother shown).
They appear to have immigrated to Scotland approx 1851. Their first son, my Great Grandfather Robert Cowan was born approximately 1848/49 in possiblely Newtownards, County Down, Ireland and married firstly to Jane McKie on 2 Dec 1870 Dailly and had the following children Thomas born 10 June 1871 Maybole, Elizabeth born 1 Oct 1872 Dailly, and Alexander 26 Oct 1874 Delmellington. Jane died 1 March 1875 at Delmellington. Rob...
