Fingland Families - Fenwick
A number of my ancestors lived in Fenwick, Ayrshire. William Fingland b 1840 in Closeburn, Dumfries married Jane Highet and had ten little Finglands, nine boys and one girl. William's father was James Fingland and I can't find him anywhere exceptthe 1841 Census for Closeburn,Dumfries. If anyone can help with any information I'd really appreciate it. Regards Jan

I am researching my Paternal line of WRIGHT,and am very keen to make contact with other Family Members, in NZ and abroad. My Great Grandfather,Peter Gemmill WRIGHT,(b.1839.)(12 children NZ) and his younger brother,Thomas WRIGHT,(5 sons NZ) immigratedto South Otago, New Zealand 1860c. I have a considerable amount of information on the New Zealand lines but I would like to complete the Tree as much as possible before putting it into print. This family of WRIGHT farmed at Warnockland for around 4generations.

My gggrandfather John REId was born in FENWICK circa 1815. He married Mary Barclay at High Parish PAISLEY in 1845. John REID was a miller and the family lived at MONTGRENNAN before migrating to Tasmania (Australia)circa 1856 with children William REID, Janet REID and Elizabthe REID (Elizabeth died on the voyage). John REID's father was said to be a miller at Rowallan Mill. I have a booklet 'Annals of Fenwick' which lists a John REID as signatory to a petition regarding the Corn Laws. Does anyone know this family?

I am searching for any information regarding James Findlay, born 22 January 1836 & Margaret Paton, born in 1840, the daughter of John Paton and Margaret Morton, both from Kilmarnock. James' parents were Charles Findlay (born in 1792) & Jean Lemont or Limont, who married in Dreghorn, Ayrshire, Scotland, on 7 April 1821. They had 7 children:- 1) - Jean Findlay, born 12 May 1822, 2) - John Findlay, born 30 April 1824, 3) - Robert Findlay, born 7 June 1826, 4) - Charles Findlay, born 25 July 1828, 5) - Margaret Findlay, born 10 February 1831, 6) - Mary Findlay, born 13 May 1833, 7) - James Findlay, born 22 January 1836, died 8.11.1917. All were born in the Parish of Fenwick, Strathclyde, Scotland. Following their marriage in Kilmarnock in 1862, James & Margaret immigrated the same year to New Zealand on the ship "The Grassmere". Brothers John and Charles Findlay, had already come to New Zealand and were farming at North Taieri, Dunedin, where they were joined by James in 1862. Looking for more details on Rev George Smith and his wife Marion Freer. Rev Smith was minister of Galston Parish church from 1778- 1823. Rev Smith and Marion Freer were married at St Cuthberts Edinburgh 20 April 1782. Robert Louis Stevenson was their gt grandson. Trying to chase dates of birth for both parties.

I am interested in finding Y DNA matches, especially in 37 or 67 marker tests as performed by Family Tree DNA, in order to find my most recent common ancestor with unknown Scottish cousins. I have close matches with some Muirs that were born in Ayrshire, Kirkpatricks in Dumphries, Alexanders in Lanarkshire.These matches aren't close enough to find a common ancestor as yet but exciting advances in genetics may make this possible in the not too distant future (he says optimistically).

My Father passed away on November 28 2003, and I am looking for his brother John Daly to inform him of Dad's passing and have not had much success. Dad (William Duncan Daly) was born in Kilmarnock in the County of Ayr at 00:55 hrs on June 01, 1927to Elizabeth Brown the wife of John Daly, (Steel Worker) Who were married on July 04, 1925 at Kilmarnock. The address of the birth was 49 Strand Street, Kilmarnock. Recently I became aware Dad also had other siblings, although I only know the firstnames of his other brothers and sisters. I do not know the order of their births. John Daly (mentioned above), Greta Daly, James Daly and Doreen Daly (deceased). I hope that this increases my chances of locating any or all of my Aunt or Uncles. My thanks to anyone with information on any of the above, I hope to hear from my relatives soon. Would anyone have any details of Hugh Kean whose father was james Kean.Hugh was born from what I understand in Kilmarnock in 1846/47 his father was said to have been a Miner.He used the name Kean but I was told that it had changed from Kane.From aged20 I know his history but can find nothing for the family before that date.
