The Den, Barkip

In the 1940`s there was an old house at Barkip on the road between Beith and Dalry, opposite a co-op store (Danny in charge). In the 1850`s I believe a Hull family lived there. In the late 1800`s Mary (Hamilton) and Peter Holmes raised their family in it. I do`nt know when they moved in but Jessie (Hill) and James Holmes were there in the 1940`s. If this brings back any memories, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

My 2xggrandfather Thomas MORTON b. 14 Nov 1819 and registered in the Loudon Parish. He married Janet/Jessie WOODBURN on 4 Jun 1842 in same Parish. I know of two children James & William, but have recently been told there were others. William was killed in a horse accident aged 19 years and James went on to marry and have issue of 9. I am willing to share my research and looking for others with an interest in this family who arrived in South Australia Nov. 1847.

David Henry married Mareon Cockburn 1806. I have not been able to find David's parents. Mareon's parents Laurence Cockburn and Margaret Allason. Laurence was born in Dundonald. His father was William Cockburn, who may have married Janet Wilson. Suggested names for William's parents are Robert Cockburn (b.1692) and Elizabeth Gibson.

Blackwood Family - Dunlop
James Blackwood (c. Sep 1739 in Dunlop Parish) married Martha Stevenson or Stinson (c. Oct 1728 also of Dunlop Parish). I belive James' parents were Thomas Blackwood and Sarah Stell, and Martha's parents were Robert Stevenson and Ann Spier.
I wish to obtain more history of the Blackwoods in Dunlop Parish. My family has a tradition that all boys must include either James or Blackwood as a part of their name. My Great Grand Mother was a Janet Blackwood born Beith 1850 married James Wotherspoon and emmigrated to New Zealand.
