Bigholm
- Beith
I'd like to know anything about the area known as Bigholm in the vicinity of Beith. I've seen a reference to the Bigholm hills, regarding a public trail and nearby grazing animals. It is probable that the surname Biggam or Bigham originated either here, or from the village Bigholms in Dumfriesshire, according to The Surnames Of Scotland by Dr. George F. Black. Any history of the name or area would be precious to know.

My G G Grfather Thomas Cowan & My GG Aunt Sarah Weir died at Beith
- Beith
Names researching Cowan, McCutcheon, Crosbie, McIlwrick, McFarland, Weir These are my queries, if anyone has some spare time and can help with any useful information I would be extremely grateful. My details are as follows:- My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas Cowan (father John) who married Margaret McCutcheon (father John) on 11 Nov 1847 at Newtownards County Down, Ireland. It would appear that Thomas was born approx 1827 Drumlee, Drumgooland, County Down Ireland, and Thomas Cowan died in Beith in 26 Mar 1808 and Margaret was born approx 1829 at Drumawhy, Newtownard, County Down, Ireland and died 21 Feb 1882 at New Stables Culzean, Kirkoswald. On Thomas's Death Certificate it states his parents were William Cowan and Agnes (nee Tingle)whereas his Marriage Certificate says his father was John (no mother shown). They appear to have immigrated to Scotland approx 1851. Their first son, my Great Grandfather Robert Cowan was born approximately 1848/49 in possiblely Newtownards, County Down, Ireland and married firstly to Jane McKie on 2 Dec 1870 Dailly and had the following children Thomas born 10 June 1871 Maybole, Elizabeth born 1 Oct 1872 Dailly, and Alexander 26 Oct 1874 Delmellington. Jane died 1 March 1875 at Delmellington. R...

Davidson, William

I am looking for more information for William (H.D.??) Davidson and Susanna McBurnie and their ancestors.
William married Susanna Ross (nee McBurnie), 11 February 1844, in Girvan, Ayrshire. Their children were Hugh Davidson born 28 January 1844, and Thomas Davidson born 27 February 1846. Both children were baptized in Colmonell, Ayrshire.
The family immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1847.

In William Davidsons obituary, his wife referred to him as William H.D. Davidson. Not sure of his other given names.

McClatchie or McLatchie
- Craigie
Hi, through the help of some kind relatives I have some information on Thomas Mc(C)latchie who married Mary YOUNG and whose children (James 1798) and Jannet (1793) were born in Monckton but the family seem to have resided in and around Craigie in later generations. James married Jean GRAY before 1822 when their eldest child Thomas was born in Craigie - their 7th child William (1837) was my husband's ancestor - he married Agnes RALSTON and moved to Campbelltown. Are there any Mc(C)latchies still in the Craigie area I wonder? More than collecting names and dates, I'd like to find out more about their lives and the history of the village.
