Johnston, Thomas

Can anyone fill in information regarding the Johnston family who arrived in Girvan, Ayrshire, circa 1841 from Ireland. From the 1841 valuation rolls census the family are recorded as Thomas Johnston, head of family, age 20, occupation handloom weaver. Margaret Johnston, Wife, age 20. Robert Johnston, son, age 1. All born Ireland. The family lived at Hamilton Street, Girvan and some time later moved to Glasgow. During the time they were living in Girvan, a son named Thomas was born. I am unable to find any record of son Thomass birth or subsequent record of marriage. Can anyone supply info. on Thomas or this family or suggest any place, Girvan church etc. where records may be located?

I am looking for John Hunter born 1840 in Girvan and died 30 May 1916 in Dunedin, New Zealand. He married Jane Simpson and about 1864 the came to New Zealand with their son James who would have been about 2. Jane also die 30 May 1916 in Dunedin but I have been told they died of different causes. James married ? and they had a son James, James remarried an Irish woman in 1910. James the younger married Kathleen Jane Gibbons Barnes.I would love to hear from any one with information on John, Jane and James Snr. Thanks

Robert Campbell BROWN (b.1826); William BROWN (b.1828); Catherine BROWN (b.1831); James Campbell BROWN (b.1833); David BROWN (b.1835); Margaret BROWN (b.1837); Marianne (Mary Ann?) BROWN (b.1839); Janet Hannah BROWN (b.1843) ____ Robert married Janet Hutchison BAIRD, and they emigrated to Australia in 1854. ____ James may also have emigrated to Australia. ____ Janet Hannah married a David REID, and moved to Lanarkshire. ____ They are all listed on the 1841 Census for Ochiltree & 1851 Census for Ochiltree and Dalrymple (Could not find Margaret and Catherine, either or both may havebeen married.) ____ The parents James and Margaret BROWN, were listed in the 1861 Census for Kirkmichael at Cassillis Mill. ____ (Have not seen the 1871 Census as yet.) ____ By 1881 James BROWN Snr. is still on the Kirkmichael Census, at Old Cassillis Mill. Margaret his wife is not listed (possibly deceased), David (widower), Mary Ann, and grandchildren Douglas, Robert and Jessie). ______ Other Ayrshire surnames linked to this family include: HUTCHISON, BURNS, WYLIE, GUTHRIE, KEAN, COWAN.

I'm interested in tracing ancesters/descendants of Alexander SEMPLE and Agnes CURRIE, m 22 Jan 1822 Ochiltree, Ayr. Alexander was a thatcher. They had at least one daughter Mary SEMPLE who married a soldier Samuel HUNT from the Ayrshire barracks. Agnes was b abt April 1799 to John CURRIE and Margaret BEAUMONT (IGI ref), and Margaret was born abt 1765 to William BEAUMONT (IGI ref), himself b abt 1739, all in Ochiltree.

My gggrandfather John REID married Mary BARCLAY at Paisley in 1845 and was a flour miller at Montgreenan.Three children were born there, William, Janet & Elizabeth. The family migrated to Tasmania (Australia) in 1855. Does anyone have knowledge or records of MONTGREENAN/REID/BARCLAY mid 19th century. The family also had links to Fenwick.

Looking for anyone claiming the MORTON family of LOUDOUN. Hugh MORTON married Elizabeth MILLER they had 9 children, all born at Loudoun ( or Loudoun Hill). Matthew 1790, Janet 1788, Ann 1787, Thomas 1785, Elizabeth 1797, Agnes 1783, James 1795, Hugh 1793, Helen 1791. I am claiming Helen b1791 as being married to David BOYD of Monkton, their children all born in Monkton being David 1813, Elizabeth 1815, Jean 1817 and Hugh 1819. I can only find one marriage for a David BOYD and Helen MORTON in Scotland at Avondale Lanark March 1812.
