Think Robert's father John McLauchlan married Janet Spiers November 1836 West Kilbride. Four daughters born W.Kilbride, two born Ardrossan. Also Speir and Dickie.

Charles Maxwell originally from Ayr born Feb 1929, Cathy MacDonald from Pollockshaws Glasgow born Jan 1930 (circa). Had 5 children ,Charles, Thomas, Angela, Audrey, Kathleen. All siblings attended Mainholm academy in or around late sixties/early seventies. My great grandfather left Ayr - a sheep farm - to come to London in 19th century, he had a pub in London but left to go to Australia in the gold rush, leaving wife, daughters and son Thomas to run the pub. He came back twice, losing gold on the way but on his third trip a message was received by his wife that he had died in Australia. Any info would be helpful

My great x5 grandparents were Thomas BAIRD and Grizel BICKER who were born around 1729, possibly in Ayrshire. They had 3 daughters, Anna, born 1749 in Ayr, Marion, born 1751 in Ayr, and Grace (or Grizel), born 1770 in Ayr. Grace BAIRD, my great x4 grandmother married Peter YOUNG in 1793 in Ayr. Peter may have been a soldier. They had a son, John YOUNG who was born in St Quivox, Ayrshire, in about 1802. John YOUNG was a Supervisor of Excise, and he died in 1878 in St Quivox. He married Agnes FARQUHAR in 1826 in Ayr. Does anyone have any relevant information, or can I assist anyone who is researching the same people? In particular I’d be interested to get more details on Peter YOUNG and on Grizel BICKER. Update May 06 - Grizel BICKER's parents were John BICKER (1709 app) and Isabell WILSON (1709 app)who were married in 1725 in Ayr. Isabell's father was William WILSON (1689 app).

A gr.grandfather of mine I only know his surname, Milne. He left Scotland for South Africa. He worked in the Diamond Mine in Kimberley, Cape Province (1870-1880?). His wife (also only a surname, Bruce) I believe her family ran an Inn somewhere around Ayr or Ayrshire. In 1885 my grandmother Lily Milne was born in Kimberley after which her father (Milne) left them for the Gold fields in Johannesburg. Is there anybody who knows of a family member who left for South Africa and worked in diamond/gold fields. Maybe returning to Scotland. Would appreciate any information over the Bruce family who had an Inn somewhere in Ayrshire in the 1820's?. Also information about the family Milne, Ayrshire?

It is probable that the surname Biggam or Bigham originated either here, or from the village Bigholms in Dumfriesshire, according to The Surnames Of Scotland by Dr. George F. Black. My G G Grfather Thomas Cowan & My GG Aunt Sarah Weir died at Beith - Beith
Names researching Cowan, McCutcheon, Crosbie, McIlwrick, McFarland, Weir These are my queries, if anyone has some spare time and can help with any useful information I would be extremely grateful. My details are as follows:- My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas Cowan (father John) who married Margaret McCutcheon (father John) on 11 Nov 1847 at Newtownards County Down, Ireland. It would appear that Thomas was born approx 1827 Drumlee, Drumgooland, County Down Ireland, and Thomas Cowan died in Beith in 26 Mar 1808 and Margaret was born approx 1829 at Drumawhy, Newtownard, County Down, Ireland and died 21 Feb 1882 at New Stables Culzean, Kirkoswald. On Thomas's Death Certificate it states his parents were William Cowan and Agnes (nee Tingle)whereas his Marriage Certificate says his father was John (no mother shown). They appear to have immigrated to Scotland approx 1851. Their first son, my Great Grandfather Robert Cowan was born approximately 1848/49 in possiblely Newtownards, County Down, Ireland and married firstly to Jane McKie on 2 Dec 1870 Dailly and had the following children Thomas born 10 June 1871 Maybole, Elizabeth born 1 Oct 1872 Dailly, and Alexander 26 Oct 1874 Delmellington. Jane died 1 March 1875 at Delmellington. R...
