Also do you have a Flora born about 1797 and a Sarah Ann (not sure of date) in your tree? Whiteford, Cain, Kain, Wyllie, Galbraith - Campbeltown
Looking for information about James Whiteford born Ireland May 1826, christened Campbeltown 11 May 1826. James's parents were Alexander Whiteford and Margaret Cain/Kain. James (15) is listed on the 1841 Campbeltown Census with his mother, Margaret (50) and sister Cathrine (20). There are two other Whitefords on the 1841 Census who may be James's sisters, Rosann Whiteford and Margaret Whiteford.
Cathrine married Donald Galbraith (Gigha 1813) in 1847. They died in Campbeltown in 1890. They had no children. James married Jean
Wyl(l)ie of Stewarton in Campbeltown in 1849 and they migrated to Australia in 1852.
Margaret Whiteford is listed as living with Catherine & Donald in the 1861 Census. I have been unable to find a further record of Rosann.
Family history says that Alexander Whiteford was involved in the fishing industry in Campbeltown. James was listed as a labourer on the 1841 Census and a journeyman mason on the 1851 Census.
If anybody knows of these families, has an interest in the fishing industry in Campbeltown or could provide information about what a journeyman mason did and any records which might have been kept for this trade I would be pleased to hear back from you.
