Pinkney In Angus
- Angus (Forfarshire, ANS, County, Scotland)
When I was visiting an old aunt in North Yorkshire in 1957, she told me that my father's mother, Annie Elizabeth PINKNEY, was the daughter of David Gullon PINKNEY, "whose father came from Forfar to work at the alum mines in Sleights (a small town near Whitby)."
David Gullon was born 1825; his fatherÕs name was Anthony PINKNEY. If my aunt was right, Anthony must have moved from Forfar to
Yorkshire in the very early 1800's. She also mentioned "the Gordon clan."
By "Forfar" I assume she meant County Angus.
She gave me some other information which turned out to be incorrect. What I wish to know is whether ANY Pinkneys have Angus connections.

He came over from Ireland to Glasgow and built up a business of a string of pubs, his wife died when my grandad was young. The story goes that the children were sent away to boarding school. When my grandfather was 15 he ran away and joined the army. I am trying to find out any information about his siblings or ancestors, any help would be greatfully appreciated.

sturrock/patullo
- Angus (Forfarshire, ANS, County, Scotland)
I'm just starting out in researching my late father's roots. He was Charles Lowden Sturrock, son of Andrew Sturrock, railway clerk, married in 1916 to Mary Jane Patullo. They lived in Forfar. Charles was their only son and a one time junior swimming champion of Scotland. I believe his grandfather was a shepherd. Charles became principal of the Premium BOnds in St Annes where he died aged 70 in 1992. He had no sons except for an adopted son by his first wife. He sadly drowned at Blackpool, when aged around 8, I believe. Would love to hear of any links relating to his family. Liz

Barnhill family
- Angus (Forfarshire, ANS, County, Scotland)
Hello,I was hoping someone could help me on my ancestor David Barnhill born ca. 1695 in Monifieth parish. He was probably born where Barnhill village is located today(now a suburb of Dundee).First can anyone tell me when & how the village of Barnhill was named? There is a Barnhill village in Glasgow,Perth & Angus areas. My Barnhill's lived in all three areas in the above order from the 1500's to the early 1700's when David Barnhill immigrated to Delaware colony. Is there any info as to the origin of these villages? It seems there may be a connection with the Barnhill family. It has also been suggested that the Barnhills were originally called de Burniville and the named changed over the centuries.Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

- Angus (Forfarshire, ANS, County, Scotland)
Hi..Does anyone have any information on the surname 'Longmuir' from Lochee, Scotland, living there around the early 1930's On researching my Ancestry I have seen that on my Grandmothers Death Certificate (1933 - Mary Jane Orchiston) is shows a Robert Longmuir as the informant and his relationship as being an Uncle.
