Blacks in Dundee - Dundee
My husband's grandmother was Janet Johnston, born 1880 somewhere on the brim of Dundee. The town of her orginal birth begins with an 'A' but we are not sure which, as she generally just said she was from Dundee. She was a dark-skinned black woman. Does anyone know of any communities of black people that lived around Dundee in the late 19c. I do not believe she was a slave, and so we are fascinated to know how she got to be born in this region. She migrated to the USA circa 1900, and we believe the spelling of her name to be Janet Johnston, however, in the US it was pronounced Jeanette Johnson (without 't').
