John Mackie - New Deer
Looking for descendants of John Mackie and Margaret Mackenzie, both born circa 1810, he in New Deer, she on the Black Isle in Resolis (sp?). Married in Elgin, the had George, John, Margaret, James and Robert. John (father) and Geo. never immigrated to the U.S. All the other members of the family did. Margaret (Mother) died in 1863 in Natchez, Miss. the son John was my great (2) grandfather. James served in the Confederate Army and returned to Scotland. My great grandfather Hugh Murison was born in New Deer. Son of Alexander and Bathia{nee. Wallace} I believe Hughs wife to be Mary Ann Allan married in Methlick 31st october 1868. Searching for info on William Innes b. abt 1856 New Pitsligo (Weetingshill). 1901 Census shows he is married to Mary E. Rothnie b. 1855 New Deer with 7 children: James R b. 5 Jul 1879, William J b.1881, Charles b. 1883, John b. 1886, Mary Anne b. 1 Nov 1887, Alex b. 1889 and Georgina b. 1893. The census gives their address as Backhill, Auchman Hall, New Deer. The family emigrated to Canada and I've found them in the 1906 and 1911 Census for Edmonton, Alberta. Anybody else researching his family? Their marriage ceremony was performed 15 June 1878 by J.C. Hodge, independent minister of New Pitsligo, and witnessed by W. Knox and James Innes. William's father is John Innes b. 1812 Tyrie; his mother is Elspet Thomson b. 1814 New Deer. Mary's parents are Charles Rothnie or Rothney and Ann Donald and her stepfather is William Smith of Peterhead.

Looking for any information on my GGG Grandfather Alexander Smith (shoemaker) who worked in Newburgh and died there in 1860 aged 77. Married May Davidson (from Foveran)(daughter of Robert Davidson & Susan Findlay) in 1828 and had two children - Ann Smith (b 1829 d 1874) and Helen Smith (b 1833 d 1925). Does anyone know where the Shoemaker operated from in the village?

Fincher family of Newhills - Newhills
William FINCHER and his wife Barbara GARDEN had nine children in Newhills and Old Machar. They were: Christina Fraser FINCHER (1827); Helen Hill FINCHER (1829); William FINCHER (1831); James Allan FINCHER (1834); Barbara FINCHER (1836); John Cumming FINCHER (1838); Robert Forbes FINCHER (1841); Jane Cumming FINCHER (1843); Grace Poole FINCHER (1847). None died as children. Tradional naming patterns do not appear to apply as both James Allan and Robert Forbes were named after Ministers of the Church of Scotland. William FINCHER was born in England around 1801. But where is the mystery!

In 1779, my 3x great grandmother Janet Barclay married James Chalmers in Newhills. They had one child Isabella in Montrose, Angus in 1782, then my 2x great grandmother Sophia Chalmers fourteen years later in 1798 back in Newhills. I have no information about the parents of either Janet or James or any other children and would be interested in hearing from anyone who might have a connection to either parents or children.

He was a shipmaster for 35 years and had 6 children by his wife Elizabeth Booth: John, 1818, George 1820, Eliza 1823, Alexander 1824, Gordon Norrie 1827, and Peter Nicol 1832. Elizabeth Booth Craigie was a widow by April 1832. Peter was born in October 1832. She was in London in 1851 with 4 of the children. We think Gordon died as a child.

Scotsman mariner rumoured to have come from Aberdeen arrived in New Zealand around 1830 was then involved in timber, pub propietor, ship building and as a trader in partnership with a Capt James Moncur Named his sons John,Robert,James, George, Patrick and Andrew...and his ship the "Sarah Maxwell" We know he spent time in NSW Australia. Some oral history indicates he may have left Scotland in the company of other male relatives who disembarked before he arrived in NZ. It is assumed due to his statement of, having been a mariner, that he worked his passage to NZ He was lost assumed drowned in 1843 in NZ waters

I'm looking for information on the following offspring of John and Joanna Slater. Elizabeth Slater, born 13 Sep 1870, Aberdeenshire, Martha, born 16 Aug 1873, Glasgow, John Drummond Slater, born 2 Aug 1880, Glasgow. John and Joanna moved from Aberdeen to Glasgow, where John was involved with the City Mission. In 1903 he emigrated to South Africa with his wife and two youngest daughters. The older children appear to have been left behind in Scotland.
