My great grandmother Barbara Stewart was born in Monymusk in 1851. She was one of 12 sons and daughters of George and Jessie Stewart. George was born in Cairnie about 1820 and Jessie was born in Cluny about the same time. George was a farmer. The last census mention of the family was in 1871. My great grandmother ended up living and bringing up a family of 10 surviving children in Walthamstow.

Alexander Center and his wife Mary Brodie had in the 1841 census a border, the stable boy George Peter, who that year married their daughter Margaret Center at Montquhitter 26 July,1841. Is there any sign of the Peter's family still living around there? Was a cousin of Sir Walter Scott?. She and George had to marry in her fathers kitchen because she admired Florence Nightingale so, she became a nurse and midwife,,,and this was disgraceful in those days. (hand written notes by her daughter). She married her fathers stable boy. It's said that her father was a school teacher/minister. Margaret continued her nursing and midwifery in San Fransisco. Many of the families records were destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and subsequent fire. There were at least two children left in Scotland.
