Dudley Workhouse 1878 - Dudley
The 32nd Report of the Commissioners in Lunacy 31st March 1878 In PP 1878 XXXIX p 084 Dudley Workhouse, overcrowding The imbecile wards of the Dudley Union Workhouse having been found on the visit in October1876, to be inconveniently crowded, the inmates being 107 in number, we called the attention of the Local Government Board to the matter, and recommended for consideration a suggestion made in the Report, that it might be well to erect a separate block for this class. We were glad to learn in February that the guardians had for some time had the matter under consideration, and had determined, with the consent of the Local Government Board, on removing a number of children who occupied part of the building where the imbeciles were placed to new and commodious schools, with teachers' residences. This solution of the difficulty, if carried out, appeared to usunexceptionable.

Information On Perks-Dudley - Dudley
Hi there. My name is Harvey-& I have just joined this site today!I am looking into the name Perks of Dudley West Midlands.Following some certificates I recently acquired-I have noticed my grandmother on my fathers side was called Ruby May Davies(Nee Perks)! She lived with my grandfather Frederick Owen Davies at Tower Street Dudley in 1921-& then Constitution Hill in 1924. The name I am concentrating on is "Perks"! Today I found the St Thomas Church gravestone list & discovered a refernce to the name Perks! It read-Entry 74. In Loving Memory Of Frances Fisher-The Beloved Wife Of S.J.Perks,Jeweller of Dudley who entered into life 31st October 1887-aged 56 years! Then another entry is as follows: Also Samuel J.C.Perks-Died 8th May 1912! Now I would think that as the name Perks is such an unusual name-it is just possible that this S.J.Perks/Samuel J.C.Perks could well be related to my grandmother Ruby May Perks. So if you can shed any light on this or think there may be some resembelance between the 2 names then please do get in touch-any information would help!I look forward to hear from anyone who can help.kInd regards-Harvey
