Gisborne
- Bretforton
I am interested in the history of my family, who were mainly farm labourers and market gardeners (although some moved to Birmingham in the late nineteenth century). They moved around the villages West of Evesham Pebworth, Badsey, Church Honeybourne, Bretforton, Childswickham, the Littletons, Broad Marston, Hinton on the Green etc - often with successive children born in different villages. Some of the early census records show them as "Gezborne" or "Gazborne" - probably a reflection of how they spoke, as the church records show their names correctly. The spelling Gisbourne seems to have stuck with some branches of the family, and as late as the 1950s some of my relatives used both spellings. Today most that I know of live around Stratford. I have traced the Gisborne branch back to John Gisborne, who is variously recorded as being born in 1789, 1791 and 1794 in Bengeworth. The Bengeworth parish records show him recorded as a "bastard" in June 1797. His mother is Mary Gisborne. I cannot trace her birth or whether she ever married. A Mary Gisborne married a William Dowler at Saintbury in 1803,but I do not know if this was her. I would like to trace Mary's parents, and what happened to her. John married another Mary,(born 1787) but I do not know her maiden name. They had four children, one of whom, Ann, also had an illegitimate child. Another, Alfred, was my great great grandfather, who married Eliza Mayo at Pebworth in 1850. I would like to find the maiden name of both Marys.

Blakemans Of Broadway
- Broadway
I'm looking for information on an Elizabeth Blakeman or anyone connected to her. She was possibly a widow who lived in Broadway in early 1800. Poor law records show her to be living off the parish having 3 sons by 3 different fathers. The first, acknowledging paternity, was the local butcher John Williams who paid for the upkeep of his son John Williams Blakeman born 1801. The second son was Joseph Blakeman born 1804 and the father was stated to be William Reeves of Snowshill but he must have absconded as there was a warrant out for him. the third son was William born in 1807. After this I can find no trace of the family until Joseph appears in Birmingham in the 1851 census.
