Barkerites - Expelled From Mnc. - Bramley
From The Century Cyclopedia of Names 1895 Joseph Barker was born at Bramley, Leeds 11th May 1806 and died at Omaha, Nebraska 15th September 1875. An Anglo-American preacher and political agitator. He was expelled from the Methodist New Connection in1841 on Theological grounds, and established a sect known as the Barkerites. Later he adopted deistical opinions, but finally returned to the orthodox point of view. In 1847 he visited America, on his return he supported the Chartist agitation, and was arrested at Manchester in 1848, and at the same time he was elected to Parliament. In 1851 he emigrated to the United States where he identified himself with the Abolition movement. He was a lecturer and voluminous writer.

Albert J Mahomet and family - Bramley
Anyone know what happened to Albert John Mahomet (Methodist minister, born Poplar, London 1858)and his family? They were living in Bramley in 1911 but I can't trace them after that. I'm particularly interested in his daughter, Leah Gladys Edna (known as Edna) b 1895 who married Leslie Middleton in Bury St Edmunds in 1926. I know she was living in Witney, Oxfordshire when Leslie died in 1931 and I suspect she may have gone back to her family as she was pregnant at the time. I cannot however find a birth record for her son David (1931/32) but I know he was alive and living in Sydney, Australia in the mid 1980s. Any clues to the Mahomets or David Middleton would be wonderful! Thanks, Helen

Robinson family - Brampton en le Morthen
Samuel Robinson Born at Pleasley Hill, Nottingham 1799 settled here in the 2nd quarter of the 19th Century and had the following children in two marriages: Rhoda, Samuel, Joseph, Mary Ann, Alfred James, Charles Roddis. Samuel and his first wife Susanna (d.1841) lived at Brampton Common where he continued to live when he married Ann RODDIS at Laughton in 1844. As soon as Ulley church opned it is likely they attended here as they are both buried here. Rhoda went on to settle in Ravenfield withher husband George Burton. Also an older brother of Rhoda's, William Robinson also lived there briefly before his and his wife/children early death.
