William Steer was the son of Jane Steer and born in Petworth, probably in 1837. He moved to London and married Amelia Tucker, née Hubbard, in 1859 when his occupation was given as tailor. Peter Thorning, buried in Petworth? - Petworth
I am looking for further evidence that Peter Thorning was buried somewhere in Petworth. I have seen a small framed tapestry commemorating his life, but I no longer have access to it. He was born in Salcombe, Devon in 1852 and apparently drowned somewhere near Salcombe in 1871, aged 19. He does appear in the 1871 census, so it suggests that the date of death, in June, is correct. The tapestry refers to his burial in Petworth Abbey, but does such a place exist? Could the person who tried to contact me recently, please try again! Thanks. KL.
