Looking for correct spelling of George Atkins parents, William Atkins and Elizabeth Cruikshank?or derivative. He was born in Rye in 1844. Also any info on the name Atkins from the French Hugenot original.

Correct mother's name-Atkins - Rye
We have a copy of the birth registration from Hull for George Huntley Atkins born in Rye Susses in 1844. We cannot read the old english handwriting and it looks like Croonshank, or Carrochet etc. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be? I don't know how to get into cencus records for the early 1800's there to search these various names. Thank you

My g.g.grandmother was Fanny Sands born 1860 in Rye. Siblings: Alfred b.1853, Emily b 1855, Frank b 1856 and William b.1865. Their parents were William b1821 at Rothfield, Sussex and Mary (Emery) b. 1821 Pembury Kent. Willam was a carpenter who sadly committed suicide in 1880. Any relations I would be interested to hear from.

BRAZIER - Rye
I am looking for any information for the BRAZIER family. Henry BRAZIER was born and died in Rye 1802-1845 and married a Mary Munn FURBY. They had two sons Henry & Frederic. Henry died as an infant. There is a memorial plaque in Rye Parish Church. It is believed that Frederic lived at Old Place, Sandhurst Cross. I have seen quite a few BRAZIER graves in Rye Parish Churchyard but I am unable to link any to my family at present. Has anybody done research in this area?

Rye Sussex or Kent? - Rye
Researchers should note that the registration district of Rye Union (part of Rye) was in Kent and often shows up as Kent rather than Sussex. Don't know when it changed, but I have a marriage cert. dated 1851 clearly showing it as "Rye Union in the Counties of Sussex and Kent".

Francis Weller of Salehurst, Gent, married Ann ??? about 1663 and had Ann, Richard, another Ann, Elizabeth, Francis, Eleanor, Thomas, Mary, Priscilla, William, Susannah between 1664 and 1685. I am trying to establish whether Thomas Weller 1737-1807,sometime schoolaster of Mayfield, was a descendant, and thence descent to another Thomas who settled in Liverpool and was father of Bessy, Christina/Christiana and Anna. Charles Dickens fell in love with 'the beautiful Miss (Christina)Weller' and she married his best friend, while Anna married his brother Frederick Dickens.

I am researching the Glyde family and have established that my great(x4)grandfather was born in the vilage in 1815. His parents were John and Charlotte. He lived until 1911 and died in Hastings. His name was Lawrence and that name and George were given to sons in subsequent generations. I have so far been unable to find the births of John or Charlotte. There were branches of the family in Hastings, Salehust and East Anglia. Lawrence and his sons were invloved in the gas,plumbing and building trades in the late 19th and early 20 C. (For any of those interested in Hastings politics the family are likely to have known the characters in the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists)
