William Henry & Happy Wodell - Jarvis Brook
I am trying to find out when/where my ggGrandfather WILLIAM HENRY WELLER married my ggGrandmother HAPPY WELLER (WODDEL). I know only that he died in 1906 in Jarvis Brook and she in 1910 in the Women's Workhouse, Uckfield. I know that an inquest was held in WILLIAM's death (Stomach cancer) but have been unable to find any record that might lead to the next step backwards (as it were!) Annoyingly enough, the informant on WILLIAM's death cert is the coroner not HAPPY. I do know that he was born in 1834 in Rotherfield amd that she was born around the same time in the same place (1901 census). If anyone can be of assistance, I'd be most grateful.

Shepherds on the Downs - Jevington
I can trace my father's paternal family as far back as John Peirce born around 1635. Most of his descendents were born, married and died in and near Jevington.
As far as I can guess they all worked in agriculture.
The line was broken when my great grandmother Sarah Anne (nee Hoadley) moved to Eastbourne when her husband died in 1887. He was a shepherd living at Hill Cottages, Willingdon.
My father's maternal family (Rusbridge) were also shepherds. They were originally from East Dean. The earliest entry I can find is of Robert Rusbridge born 1787. My G grandfather John William Wilson Rusbridge was born in 1850. His last place of work was at Ashcombe Park near Lewes. Their cottage can still be seen from the dual carriageway just before the turn off to Lewes itself.
