Walter Butcher lived at Ecclesden Manor from 1918 to 1951. There are two stone seats in the Square, Angmering, one remembering Walter's wife, Margaret, and the other remembering a Captain Francis Campbell Norbury ( who died in WW1)Both were put there by the British Legion in 1950. John Budd & his wife Elizabeth settled in Angmering around 1783. Their children christened in the village up to 1801, included William Budd, Joseph Budd, James Budd, Elizabeth Budd, Frances Budd, Sarah Budd, Mark Budd and Richard Budd. Frances Wilson married in the Village in 1812. Mrs Elizabeth Budd was buried in Angmering on 10 september 1815, and her widowed husband John joined her in December 1835. George Wilson of Lyminster the son of John Wilson & Martha Brockton married Sarah Cole in Angmering in 1793.

Ardingly House - Ardingly
My mother also visited a big house in Ardingly. It was situated behind the Ardingly show ground. The owners of the house were the Killick family. This would have been around 1930. It may not be the same house. My mother said tha there was maids and servants. There is a public foot path beside the showground which you walked down and could reach the big house. I don't know if the house exsists today.

I know she married my GGGgf WILLIAM GLOVER on 12/8/1839 at the parish church in Charlton (now London SE7), and that her father's name was THOMAS WELFARE and that she was born in Cuckfield, Sussex c1819. I have found a record of an ANN WELFARE being christened on 27/9/1819 at Lindfield And Ardingly, Sussex, England. This ANN has parents listed as THOMAS WELFARE and ZILPHA BUCHANAN. Here lyeth the body of Revd Mr Stephen Roborough late rector of this parish,Rector from 1667 to 1723 , , He died aged 89.He is buried in the S.w.. chancel of the church. There are other Roborough /Rowberry Rovery burials at Ardingly church. I am looking for the parents of a Rosamond BURT/BIRT who married a Thomas BEAN on 29 July 1795 in Bexhill. Rosamund later died in final quarter of 1872 in Hastings area. Ancestors of Henry"Tappers"Bennett whose father Richard lived in Arundel in the 1830's. Henry (Harry)was a brewer and maltster, and he came to Australia in 1831, courtesy of the government. He learned to read and write and communicated with his father, Richard, who was working in Arundel in his 70's. The family did work at the gardens at the castle.
