Henry Wilson button maker on Walworth or Kennington Marriage Certificate - Kennington
Henry Wilson appears as a button maker on his daughter's marriage certificate. Jane Wilson married Thomas Joseph Butler in Kennington in 1884 and the witnesses were Henry Wilson and Emma Wilson. Both bride and groom gave their addresses as St Martins and I know the groom's family came from Walworth/ Kennington. Can anyone help with Henry the button maker as Thomas Joseph Butler died before the 1891 census so I cannot identify Jane to find her place of birth. The answer : Jane was born near the Strand, London and was the daughter of Sarah Shadbolt from Huntingdonshire and Henry Wilson whose family came from Birmingham. Many of his family were button makers.

Hard-lonsdale Mews - Kew

Alfred died in November 1925. The cost of the funeral was £4.1s.6d. He had always suffered from ill health being asthmatic and the thick fogs lasting for days attributed to his early death. Emily was a keen needlewoman and made outfits for the Ladies. Her children were always smartly dressed sitting up late into the night making clothes for her family. She died at St Margarets Twickenham in March 1958 aged 90 years. I was about sixteen then. My mother Gladys was one of her daughters who married from Londsdale Mews to Harold James Baxter in 1927

Kingston Workhouse - Kingston Upon Thames
The Builder 1868 Vol XXVI . 2nd May 1868 325 Kingston Surrey - winter accommodation for inmates It having been found by the guardians during the severest part of the winter that additional accommodation was necessary for inmates, the subject wasdiscussed and a committee appointed to consider the question. The committee unanimously recommended the Board to increase the buildings of the house, so as to accommodate 200 additional inmates, and they approved Mr Lack's plans for the proposed alteration. The Board of Guardians, however, by a vote of 8 to 4, have decided that the alteration of the house, which was estimated to cost about £10,000, should be deferred at all events until the new infirmary is completed, as it was thought bysome that the new infirmary would relieve the house of some cases, and so afford a certain amount of room.

Smith. Forrest, Duguid, Collyer, Stephenson - Kingston Upon Thames
In 1855, at St. Margaret's, Westminster, London, John Smith (b.8 Jun 1815 at Lyndhurst, Hampshire) married Margaret Duguid Forrest (b.2 Sep 1825 at Tarves, Aberdeen). This was John Smith's second marriage (see my entry at Islington). He worked for many years as a commercial clerk in a stationer's firm. By 1866, and probably earlier, they had established residence at "Holly Villa", Sycamore Grove, Kingston Upon Thames. John and Margaret had six children: Alice Margaret (b.1857), John Edmond (b.1858), George Arthur (b.1860), Ellen Louise (b.1862), Albert Edward (b.1864), and Alfred William (my paternal grandfather, b. 1 Oct 1866). From at least 1871 on, John Sr.'s elder brother Frederick (b.23 May 1813, at Lyndhurst) lived with the family until his death in 1890. The 1881 Census enumerated John Sr.'s grandsons John J. and George C. Collyer (ages 6 and 5, respectively) of Kilburn, Middlesex. They probably were from John Sr.'s first marriage, and happened to be visiting on Census Night. On 22 Sep 1885, Alice Margaret married George Henry Stephenson (then age 33, a jeweler from Stratford-on-Avon). John Sr. and Margaret both died in 1891 and are interred in Kingston Upon Thames Cemetery (Bonner Hill). I would welcome contact with my cousins who share this ancestry.
