Sarah Ann Derrett or Wakefield or Abrahams
- Battersea
I have a Sarah Ann Derrett with very little detail I am afraid. She gave birth to an illegitimate boy named Herbert Augustus Derrett on 16 Dec 1879 in the Union Infirmary Battersea. On Herbert's birth certificate the father's name is left blank and his mother was listed with the maiden name of Derrett, but on Herbert's marriage certificate he has named his father as Herbert Wakefield Derrett deceased. On the birth certificate Sarah has given her own residence also as the Union Infirmary and heroccupation is listed as Ironer. Sarah married an Isaac Abrahmas in 1883 in Chelsea, London.
My problem is that I can't move on until I know more about Sarah and who this Herbert Wakefield was, did he exist or did Herbert Derrett make up a name for his marriage certificate to save himself the embarresment of admitting he was illegitimate?
Can anyone advise me where I might find out more?
Thank you
Lisa F.
