My maternal grandfather, though not married to my grandmother Jane COX, was Frederick John DAVIS. He was killed in WW2, most likely 1917. I am looking for details of a Steer family in Esher around 1850 onwards. I believe they may have had a connection to 'The Bear Inn'. Alfred Thomas Steer died in 1894 and his occupation was listed as 'Hotel Manager. His wife Sarah (nee Stevens) then moved to Surbiton. He had at least 2 children, Eveline and Herbert. COLLIS John, Record Keeper to the Bishop Of London - Esher
John and Dorothy COLLIS, both born Hurst Berks, lived in Esher from the 1860s. Every census 1861-1901 describes John, as Record Keeper to the Bishop of London, outlasting several Bishops. They had 10 children - Elizabeth, Ellen, Margaret, John, Edmund, Albert, Arthur, Charles, Ada and Edith. I have only found a marriage for Margaret (to W Whittingham of Essex), deaths for Ellen and John, but Elizabeth, Albert, Arthur, Charles, Ada and Edith still lived with their parents in 1901. Are there any descendents ??

I would like to gather information regarding William Lee. He was born in Ewell, Surrey, England and was Christened at St Mary's Church, Ewell in 1785. He joined the Militia in 1805 and later joined the "56th Regiment of Foot". He married Ann Needham and indicated he was a widower. In 1825 he joined the Royal Veterans' Regiment. The Lee's sailed from England, to Hobart, Australia in 1826.
