Charles Edward Jarman - (Beccles - Suffolk)
Charles Edward Jarman was born in 1859 in Beccles, Suffolk, England, son of Robert Jarman and Ellen Harriet ( Eliza) Crickmay . In September 1882 he married in Adelaide, Australia, after a three day whirlwind romance, but the remaining descendants have no knowledge of what ship or yacht he travelled on to Australia. What we do know is that he was listed on the 1861, 1871 Census in Suffolk, and 1881, he was staying at "The Nine Pins" pub at 3 Thompson Lane, St Giles, Cambridge. England. So he had to have travelled within the next twelve months. In 1882, he was listed as a blacksmith, and the word from the Australian descendants is that his wife had said he was an 'Artisan', which seems to line up with blacksmith. I have checked in Australia all available passenger lists to South Australia and zero results, and nothing seems available for 1882. It is also possible that he came out privately on a yacht or even possibly as a crewman. . Was a passport required to travel in 1882 ?. If so, can checks be made that would indicate which ship?. Is there an outbound passenger list from England? Looking for some assistance.
Peter
