My great grandad Frederick married Charlotte Duff in 1847. Their daughter Emma was born in 1873 in Wisbech and they later moved to Rotherhithe. Frederick's father was Simon Leonard, a bricklayer, perhaps originally from Mildenhall/Barton Mills Suffolk( to be proven!) and if so his mother was Ann Kimmons. Ann died in 1826, six years after marriage and leaving two small sons at least-Frederick and Isaac Leonard. Frederikc and Isac were christened in Barton Mills. Simon and Ann married in 1820. Simon had at least two brothers, frederick and Isaac! Charlotte Duff was the youngest daughter of James Duff born circa 1873-where I don't know as he died in 1850 before places of birth were mentioned on the census-would love to know! Charlotte's mother was Jane Cooper born 1787 in Wisbech. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they might be linked. James and his family seem to have been the first Duffs in Wisbech. A Sarah Duff aged 77 died there in 1830 and also a William Duff aged 44 in 1833-doubtless relations. I have found several Duffs in Lincolnshire census entries but nothing to link up. James was a gardener. Frederick Leonard was a railway platelayer and claimed to have been born in Holborn! STill investigating-any help appreciated!
