Turrall / Turrell / Tyrrell - Petistree
- Pettistree
Hi,
I'm trying to find out more about the Turrall (aka Turrell aka Tyrrell) family of Pettistree, circa 1700s / 1800s.
My g-g-grandmother was Ellen Turrall (b Pettistree 1841, d Lexden 1918) who married Edward Clarke of Lexden, Essex, in 1880. Ellen was the daughter of Henry Turrall (b circa 1804, d Lexden 1876 [??]) and Ann [probably Blake](b 1799 Peasenhall[??], d 1884 Colchester [??]). They had at least one other child - Henry Sidney Turrall (b 1839 Pettistree).
I understand that Henry Turrall was a publican. In the Ipswich directory of 1844 he is shown at the Three Tuns Coaching Inn at Pettistree.
I would love to know more, if anyone knows anything about this family I would love to hear from them.
Thanks
Tony

Lionel Britton (Novelist and Playwright)
- Polstead
I'm researching for a PhD on the work of the very obscure writer Lionel Britton (1887-1971), most of whose unpublished work is held at a library in the USA. I haven't yet been there, but someone has informed me of the contents of his will (of which there is no record in this country). Apart from several charities, he also left his copyright royalties to 'the vicars and churchwardens of Polstead' in Suffolk. I have no idea what connection he had with Polstead: he was born at Astwood Bank near Redditch, spent most of his life in London, and died in Margate. I wonder if anyone can enlighten me. Thanks in advance. (His mother - née Thomas - married Francis le Breton a few years after the death of his father. His sister was Ada, and his brothers Cyril and Percy. He never married and had a 40-year relationship with Sinead Acheson - a London solicitor. I know of no children.)
