ANDERSON - sailmakers & fishing fleet - Lowestoft
My GG Grandfather was Thomas ANDERSON who was born abt 1866 in Great Yarmouth, NFK. He married Elizabeth JAMES in 1887. My G Grandfather was William Percival ANDERSON b 1891 GY, NFK and soon after they moved to Lowestoft, SFK where the family operated a sailmaking and fishing fleet business. After WWI the majority of the family moved to Australia. Their address in Lowestoft was 44 Edinburgh Road.

Great-great-grandfather Robert Pomfrey (b.1816) moved to Lowestoft from Langham around 1871, as did his son Edmund (b.1843). Robert was a tailor and Edmund was a local postman. Edmund's daughter Daisy (my grandmother) married Lemuel Charles Broughton from Pakefield. Both Daisy and Lemuel (also known as Charles) both died in Walton Road in Lowestoft in 1953. Any info on these families gratefully received and given.

Searching for William Darby Tooke my GG grandfather from 1878 onwards. He was a basket maker - as was his father - also William Darby.He appears on Birth Cert for son Herbert - born in Hoveton 1878 - then disappears from the family home. Wife Emma and children move to his fathers shop - Dukes Head St in 1881 census then London Rd Sth in 1891 then to London by 1901.All census's say she is married - not widowed. Any help appreciated.

John William Smith - Shipwright - Lowestoft
He married Elizabeth Breach 14 Feb 1864 declaring his father to have been John Smith. From this I estimate a date of birth circa 1840 but have not been successful in tracing back this Smith line. Son William John Breach Smith attended the Leman School at Beccles and later married to Annie Treleaven (a Cornish girl) became a Fish Auctioneer at Newlyn, Cornwall. Parents appear to have "died young", certainly before 1881 census. Any advice on the Smith line would be appr eciated.

Jonathon Button b 1832 Westleton lived with his sister and her husband, William & Hannah FULLER at Lowestoft in 1851. He married Jane Hannah CRISP do John and Phoebe (b 1832 Rushmere) at Lowestoft in 1855 and they had 11 children. Particularly seeking information on the fate of Jane Hannah who appeared in the 1871 census with her husband but no records since then. In 1881 Jonathon was record as married, a Master Mariner,living a 2 Lake Lothing Tce, Lowestoft with his 11 year old son John Samuel, and his housekeeper was Dorothy Hardy, aged 47, widow, born Sunderland, Durham. He had three surviving daughters living in London - Alice Jane b 1859 was at 133 Wilbeforce Rd, Hornsey, Jessie Charlotte (1860 - 1883) was at 75 Finsbury Park Rd, Hornsey, and Laura was at Bruce House, 101 Wilbeforce Rd, Hornsey.
