Garrould family - Halesworth
I'm interested in the Garrould family which originated in Wissett and, in particular, in George Henry Garrould and his family. George was a bootmaker in Halesworth from the 1830s to the 1850s, and had a business in Thoroughfare. His son Horace, also a bootmaker, moved to Lowestoft. His daughter, Louise - my great-grandmother - married Raymond Broughton and lived in Beccles and then Lowestoft.

I have been trying to find the origin of my family name. It appears that it may have been orginally Death. If so I can trace that name to Hartest Suffolk England as early as the 1500,s They imigrated to the USA via Canada in the 1800s The name seems to have changed to Debth. Does anyone have any information on William Partridge, according to census records he was born in Hartest in about 1823. In the 1841 census there is no mention of any Partridges in the village, so I assume they must have upped sticks and moved! Hoo Farm - Haughley
Anyone have any ideas where Hoo Farm is/was? Its listed as my ancestors dwelling in the 1881 census, but I can't find it on any map and I've looked at some very old ones. Its listed after Newbells farm and Wassicks Farm in Haughley Green ( I grew up there - hence the intrigue - were those fields I trampled as a child the same fields as my forefathers?) If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

URQUHART , W. J. (1915-1985 ) - Hawstead
Walter Jackson Urquhart and his wife , Margaret Ohara Urquhart ( maiden surname Brodie ) retired to Suffolk ...... The couple had married at Sunderland , during the Second World War..... Walter had been a Constable with the Leicester City Police until he was called up to serve in the British Army..... As a Territorial soldier Walter had , pre-War , been in the Scots Guards..... At the time of his marriage he was a Lance Corporal in the Military Police.....( Scots Guardsman W.J..Urquhart had transferred to the Corps of Military Police on 3rd January 1940 ).....His service included 'Operation Dynamo' ie the Retreat from Dunkirk, in 1940....By 1944 , W.J.Urquhart was a Sergeant with The Green Howards ( Alexandra , Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment ) ..... He was discharged from the British Army in 1946 , but did not resume his career with the Leicester City Police ( He resigned in August 1946 )..... Post-War , farming in Leicestershire was followed by farming in Lincolnshire , before his retiremnent to Suffolk.....Walter Jackson Urquhart died at his home , 'Honeywood' , Hawstead , Suffolk , England.....He was cremated at Cambridge City Crematorium , on the 8th March 1985 , and his ashes were scattered within the grounds of the Crematorium....His wife , Margaret Ohara Urquhart , died 3rd June 2007.

William Sidney Cage baptised here 1904. Brother Frederick Charles, birth never registered civilly. Mother Margaret (Miles)Cage. No registered marriage dies between 1904 - 1911. Father known as Frederick William Cage AND William Edward Cage originally from Stoneham Aspall. After ? death of Margaret Miles found in Stowmarket 1911 census. Margaret Miles born ? Stonham 1876. NO registration of her death. In 1913 Frederick William Cage married Eliza King district of Blything, wife may have been born in Wangford,approx 1884 father Henry. 2 boys Frederick and Walter run away to Yorkshire. Father has 3 more known children Richard H.T, Alice J.and Frederick William. All born in the Blyth,Ipswich and Woodbridge area. William Edward Cage was the name that Frederick and Walter knew their father by NOT Frederick William, although on the 1911 census and marriage to Eliza King this is the name he states on the records. William Edward Cage first wife Mary Ann Brunning, no record of her death, no know record after 1886 time of their marriage in Stonham.
