HOOPER, LING, CALLOW, STONNARD, RIDLEY
- Bury St Edmunds
Looking for family and ancestors of Elliot HOOPER who was born in 1866 in Bury St Edmunds and married Ruth Georgina LING. They had quite a few children, many with middle of name of RIDLEY (after Elliot's mother). One had O'GRADY (after Elliot's grandmother Mary GRADY - no idea why they added the O')
Elliot's parents were Alfred John HOOPER who moved to Suffolk from Wareham, Dorset. He married twice - 1st wife and Elliot's mother, Ellen Ridley in 1860 but she died quite young in 1867. then married Maria LANKESTER. All children seem to eb from first marriage - I THINK! Ellen RIDLEY was daughter of John RIDLEY.
Georgina Ruth LING's parents were Edmund LING and Elizabeth CALLOW and his parents were Benjamin LING and Mary Annn STONNARD - the family was from Norfolk.
Love to hear from anyone interested in this family

William Flynn/wife Lydia Metcalfe, 2nd wife Charlotte Taylor Hore
- Bury St Edmunds
My g-g-grandfather was William Flynn, born abt 1921 in Old Luce, Wigtownshire, Scotland. The last confirmed 'sighting' is his marriage to Lydia Metcalfe (father William) 10/6/1852, St. James's, Bury St Edmunds.
I think that Lydia died in 1953 Q2 in Bury St Edmunds, and by the 1861 census their son William Metcalfe Flynn was living with his grandparents in Scotland.
It seems he re-married to a Charlotte Taylor Hore 16/8/1855 in Ippollitts (in/near Hitchin), Hertford, England, and they returned to Bury after the marriage. He started work as a mason in Scotland 1841, by 1852 he was a travelling tea dealer, and on his son's marriage certificate 6th December 1878 he was listed as 'draper (deceased)'. It seems that his second wife continued to trade as Mrs Charlotte Taylor Flynn as a stationer/tea/fancy goods dealer at 13 Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmunds.
I think he died sometime between 1855 & 1864 & would be grateful for any information about his death, or any other info about the tea/stationery/drapery trade in Bury during this period.
Thanks in advance
Graeme
