Thomas James Hooper Coombes, son of Alfred & Mary Ann Lovell Coombes, married Kate Burge at the Parish Church, Henstridge on 20/12/1894. ThomasÕs profession was Blacksmith, and his residence was stated as Henstridge. I have not been able to find out any more information on this family. Does anyone know any more?

Elizabeth Charlotte Coombes - Henstridge
Elizabeth Charlotte (aka Lizzie) Coombes, daughter of Alfred & Mary Ann Lovell Coombes. She was living in Henstridge with her parents at the time of the 1881 census (Pudding Hill). I donÕt know where she was living at the time of the 1891 census, but she was a witness at her brotherÕs wedding (Thomas JH Coombes) in Henstridge 1894. She married after this time and subsequently emigrated to the USA ? I have addresses in Waukegan SU and later Indiana (1922). I donÕt know her married name or anyother family details. Does anyone know any more?

Brooks Of Kingswell - High Littleton
My great-great-great-grandfather, William Brooks was born somewhere in Somerset c1754. He married Mary Harris on September 5th 1782 in High Littleton with whom he had 11 children. After her death in 1803 he married Ann Symes (Sims) on April 17th 1813and fathered a further 9 children, in and out of wedlock. He died and was buried in High Littleton on 15th April 1845. Not surprisingly a number of his descendants still live in the area. However I have been unable to trace his exact birthplace or parents. I would welcome any assistance.

My great great great great grandfather Giles Foster married Jane Carter in High Littleton in 1819. They lived in Hallatrow. He was an agricultural labourer and she later was a servant. Anyone have a history of the region in the early 19th Century? Update: I was told that Michael Browning had written a book on High Littleton and in contacting him I found more information on Giles than I could imagine as he was examined for Poor Relief and through that I have his life history!

William Brooks and Ann Sims - High Littleton
William Brooks, who is a distant ancestor, was born somewhere in Somerset around 1755. It may have been Paulton, as he was described as a bachelor from Paulton when he married. However, he lived most of his life in nearby High Littleton and married firstly Mary Harris, who died, and secondly Ann Sims. He was buried at High Littleton on 15 April 1846. Ann Sims, who was born in Paulton in about 1788, lived on until 1855. I am trying to find details of the births and parents of both William and Ann. Any assistance would be very welcome.

Poor Highbridge - Highbridge
From its humble beginings as a homestead by the bridge over the Brent river, to a strange little collection of almost ghost-like dwellings. This bridge is not the present iron construction from where many-a brave person has dived, but the one nearerto the junction of Market Street & Church Street. Can't see it? look hard and you will see the stone and brick remains of the Brent river's first bridge, now known as the River Brue of course. Closer examination may just reveal the site of the first sluice to be built on the river in an attempt to control the flow of water. Highbridge was a thriving market town and weekly meeting place for country folk; it boasted a wharf where many cargo boats loaded and off-loaded their wares before, during and after the two world wars. It also had a branchline railway crossing Church Street to Burnham where Steamer passengers were then transported to and from south coast ports on their way to the Channel Islands, goods trains plied at the wharf for the ship's cargoes. AND THEN it all stopped, just as though someone had pulled down the curtain on the last night of a theatrical production. Now the town seems to be becoming a ghost town, with its decrepid railway station, silted up river, and the l...

I found that her father Frederick, who was a carriage painter & trimmer was born in Highbridge, Somerset, registered in the first quarter of 1846. He married a Hannah Lewis from Breconshire in 1866. in 1868 BIRBIAH BRYANT married JOHN OWEN FISHER at kensington. In 1881 Paddington John was a Traveller and BETHIAH she said she was born in Highbridge around 1838. In 1901 Willesden John was a Toy Traveller and as MINNIE she said she was born in Highbridge around 1839. Their children were EMILY FISHER , AUGUSTUS FISHER and SUSAN FISHER.
