The Flewellens of Ford, Somerset - Ford, Somerset
John Flewellen, born in Old Cleeve in 1826 married Betsy Hobbs in Withycombe in 1852. In 1861 we find the family at 79 Church Street Wiveliscombe. They comprise :- John 33, Betsy 31, Amelia 7, Mary Ann 2, Richard Poole 29 a police constable and Charles Stennor 30 a tailor as is John. One daughter, Rosa Jane has already died less than a year old. By 1864 Mary has died but George Henry has been born. Sadly John dies in 1865 and the 1871 census shows Betsey Flewellin living in Ford. She is taking in washing, Robert is an erand boy and George is still at school. Amelia, who will later marry a King, must be out at work. What happened next? Did Betsy re-marry? The boys, later on, appear in Bristol.
