George Hall Peppin 1800 - 1872
- Dulverton
George Hall Peppin. Born Dulverton, Somerset, England 15th February 1800. Died Australia 16th April 1872. Married Harriet Thompson (born 1798, died 1st August 1885) "George Hall Peppin and his two sons were experienced English sheep breeders who settled at ... Wanganella station (near Deniliquin, NSW) in 1858. Dissatisfied with the yield and quality of wool from the merino, they channelled their efforts into developing a new breed that was better adapted to Australian conditions, larger of frame and able to yield a greatly improved quality and quantity of wool. Their successes constitute the foundation of Australia's reputation as a quality wool exporter. Peppin sheep now predominate among the flocks of South Africa, New Zealand and South America and 60-85 % of Australian merinos have Wanganella blood." It has been alleged that he emigrated in order to get away from his creditors in England. Nevertheless, he is celebrated by a memorial window at All Saints' Church in Dulverton. I would welcome information about his genealogical provenance.

Ludlow Family, Dunster
- Dunster
> I wonder if anyone can throw any light (so to speak) on the window at St George's church, Dunster, dedicated to Walter Ludlow (1850-1909). It is very large and paid for out of public subscription, so WL was clearly a very popular person. I am asking because I am doing research on his son Frank Ludlow (born Chelsea, 1885-1972), a famous teacher/botanist/ornithologist/
diplomat in the Himalayas including Tibet between
1923 and the late 1940s. Walter Ludlow was a grocer in Chelsea according to Frank's birth certificate but the family has strong West Country
roots and moved back (?)to Dunster when Frank was a boy. Frank attended Wellington (West Somerset County) school and his older brother Walter James Ludlow was vicar of Dulverton 1922-39 and later rector of Hawkschurch,Axminster, Devon. I know next to nothing else about the family and if
anyone can help I would be most grateful.
Many thanks,
>

Pinn Family - Dunster 1750
- Dunster
I am researching the Pinn family who resided in Dunster, Somerset about 1750 - 1770.
William Pinn (b.1740) married Sarah (WATTS) on 02.09.1764 in Dunster. They appear to have had a daughter Margaret (bap. 17.03.1765) who died and was buried in Dunster on 26.06.1765. They then appear to have had another daughter who was also named Margaret and was baptised in Dunster on 16.11.1766. Any information to solve this would be greatly appreciated.
