KENT - Blacksmiths of Allerford
- Allerford
I am researching the Kent family of Allerford in the parish of Selworthy, Somerset. The family were blacksmiths and farriers and the business went back, I believe, 300 years. Sadly the old forge at Allerford, which was next to the Post Office, has been demolished, and the Kents have not worked as blacksmiths in the village since about 1970. At present I am trying to trace the wife of Robert KENT (1832-1907). Her name was Mary and she was born in Porlock,Somerset about 1834. She married Robert Kent about 1860 and they had 7 children Charlotte Fry, Thomas, John, Herbert, Mary Ann, Edward and Emlie Fry. Could her maiden name have been Fry? The name occurs as a second name in this and subsequent generations. Any help on tracing Mary and any other information on this branch of the KENT family would be appreciated.

ASHBRITTLE ELIZABETH SNOW

One of my ancestors William Cude/Coode bap 6.4.1806 in Ashbrittle had a Son Mark Snow Cude baptised sep 1831 Mother Elizabeth. They had other children later and are on the 1851 census
We are sure she must be Elizabeth Snow bap Ashbrittle Aug 1806 daughter of Mark & Mary Snow but we have been unable to find the marriage. It may be later than the birth of Mark as an earlier family search about twenty years ago gave the date as 1833 but we have no trace as to where they found that date.
