The Old Post House - Dale - Dale
The Old Post House, Dale, Pembrokeshire, Wales, is a listed building, set back in a
long garden on the north side of Castle Way, between Dale Castle and the sea.
It was probably built in the late 18th or early 19th century, on an earlier base and
was originally owned by Dale Castle Estate.
In 1841 Isaac Phillips was employed as Butler, at Dale Castle. Isaac was son of
Francis and Rachel Phillips and was born in Haroldston St.Issells in 1816
In 1842 Isaac Phillips married Mary Lloyd in Boulston Church. After their marriage
they took up residence in the Old Post House and were employed as Postmaster and
Assistant Post Mistress. Around this time Isaac was also the first member to be
received into the Tabernacle Church, Dale.
During their marriage Isaac and Mary had six children born in the Old Post House.
Emily Adelaide, 1844 - Arthur Isaac, 1845 - Elizabeth Mary, 1847
- Mary Frances, 1848 - John Angell, 1850 - William, 1852
The 1861 Census does not record Emily and Arthur as being in residence, whilst the
1871 Census only records Isaac and Mary Phillips at home.
Mary Phillips died in Dale in January 1872, and in October 1872, Isaac married Jane
Llewellyn, daughter of William Llewellyn, Gardener at Dale Castle. Isaac and J...
