George Stratton of Madras and Tew Park, Born Madras, 12th December 1733. Died Great Tew, Oxon, 20th March 1800. Buried Great Tew, "in woollen only", 28th March 1800. He has a commemorative memorial on the wall of the church (north side of nave). Proactive exponent of regime change and thereby Governor of Madras 1776. He seems to have been one of those Englishmen who became seriously rich in India. Married Madras 17th January 1768 Hester Eleanora Light (born ca. 1748, died Broadwell, Glos., February 1834). I am keen to share information on his forebears (some of whom may have come from the Somerset in England) and descendants (many of whom remained in Oxfordshire and adjacent English counties for several generations, though I know already also of a branch of descendants in New Zealand).

Regarding the previous message I have found out that William was a labourer not a bricklayer, he was also living, in 1851, in Northfield End and being kept by the parish, also living with him was his mother Mary also being kept by the parish, the family cosists of, Samuel c 1822, Mary Ann c1840 Emma 1844 and Charles 1850. Any info. would be much appreciated as this family are proving to be very elusive.
