He has a commemorative memorial on the wall of the church (north side of nave). Proactive exponent of regime change and thereby Governor of Madras 1776. He seems to have been one of those Englishmen who became seriously rich in India. Married Madras 17th January 1768 Hester Eleanora Light (born ca. 1748, died Broadwell, Glos., February 1834).
