Dr Thomas Calton - Collingham
My gr gr gr Grandfather was Dr Thomas Calton who headed the party of settlers sailing on the 'Albury' and dying at Algoa Bay, in 1820. Can someone please tell me, was he actually born in North Collingham or was he just a practising surgeon there? I need also to know who were his parents and where were they born? Son Robert Hoe b.1784 in Hose left for America, forming Smith, Hoe & Co; in N.Y, in 1805.In 1822 after Smith's death the company became R.Hoe manufacturing Printing presses.The family became very rich & important. Robert's sister Sarah,b. 1790 married Joseph Stevens in 1810 living in Wartnaby,Leics. Their daughter Martha b 1819 married William Freeston in 1838. Their daughter Elizabeth Freeston was Mrs Isaac Sleath of Grimston,Leicestershire, my great grandma'.

According to the 1851 census, John Thurman was born abt 1773 in Cropwell Butler. He later moved to Car Colston and married Elizabeth Girton in 1802. I have had no luck finding his birth details and would be grateful to receive information that anyone may have regarding him or his parents.

John and Hellena BEELEY moved to Cuckney some time in the latter quarter of the 17th Century, they had a son John BEELEY who married Mary REVELL on the 16th July 1694. Their third son, Josiah was baptised in 1698 and in September of 1720 he marriedElizabeth SISSONS at Clowne, Derbys. Thier son Josiah was born in 1736 and in 1756 he married Mary Ann LOOMES and their son Josiah was born in 1760. In September of 1790 Josiah married Mary Goucher, she died in 1791 and he then re-married Barbara (possibly ASHMORE). Josiah and Barbara had eight children and their second daughter, Ann, married John MILNER on the 19th March 1827. They subsequently moved to Worksop where John was a Master Tailor.
