Union Workhouse - Helmsley
Hi, I'm looking for any information on Sarah Naliss formerly Dixon. She was living in the Union Workhouse in 1868 - I have this from the birth certificate of James Naliss (Dixon) my Great Grandfather born 16 Dec 1867 Union Workhouse Helmsley. His father was called James Naliss. I cannot find anything of Sarah or James in Helmsley from the 1871 census or any other census. Would anyone know if the Workhouse records still exist and if there would be a record of where Sarah moved to, and or how long she was at the workhouse. My Great Grandfather James Naliss appeares in the 1901 census living in Middlesborough with his wife Ada Dixon nee Huddlestone and a son William Arthur. James has changed his name to Dixon by now but when he died in 1934 he was buried under Naliss. It looks as if he took his mothers name some point before 1896. Any information would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. RC

Helmsley N Yorks Joseph Kirby and wife Christiana Allenby 1850s - Helmsley
I have run into a brick wall with Joseph Kirby christened 8 Jul 1821 in Helmsley (son of Stephen Kirby and Cordelia Garton) and his wife Christiana Allenby or Allanby, born in Pockley and christened 9 Jan 1825 in Helmsley (daughter of James Allenby and wife Christiana Dawson). I find both in the 1841 and 1851 censuses. They married in the 1st Quarter of 1852 (registered in Helmsley). In 1854 they had a daughter, Cordelia Kirby, who died in late June or early July 1857. After this, this couple vanishes. Both (unfortunately) have names shared by siblings and cousins, so it is difficult to untangle the strands of the family. I am wondering if they emigrated -- there are no death records for them and no one in the 1861 and 1871 censuses with similar names matches their profiles. Anyone have any information?

Family of George WHITE and Eliza KIRBY 1829 - ? - Helmsley
I am looking for information on George WHITE born 1829 in Helmsley, North Riding of Yorkshire, married Eliza KIRBY (also born Helmsley 1826)in 1855, registered in Helmsley. They had three sons: James L. WHITE, born 1856 and became a Methodist minister (last appears as a guest in a household in Spittlegate, Lincolnshire in 1891, still single); George Kirley WHITE born 1859 in Helmsley became a draper and last appears in Wombleton, Yorkshire in 1881 census with his parents as a grocer and draper's assistant, and Robert Edward WHITE born 1864 in Helmsley, last appearing in the 1881 census living in Commercial House in York, an apprentice draper. James L. is missing from the 1881 census. So, WHERE DID THIS FAMILY GO? I find no marriage or death records in Britain that I can reliably tie to any of them.

Michael married Rebekkah BELL (born c. 1741) in Hutton Bonville in November 1777 where they settled and had two known children, Michael (1778) and Thomas (c. 1783?). In Sept 1794 he acted as juror there and in October 1794 he was again listed as tenant. Michael appears to have remained there until his death in 1806. His wife Rebeccah was buried in Holtby in 1809.
