The Church family, market gardeners of Bracon Ash - Bracon Ash
Joseph Church (c.1771-c.1842, m. Hannah Moore) was a market gardener in Bracon Ash. His eldest son, William Church, left home (eventually becoming Superintendent of the Bristol Zoo) but, under the management of Joseph's second son, James Church (c. 1818-1898, m. Harriet Flood), the gardens became prominent enough to be mentioned in gazetteers. Grapes and chrysanthemums became the Church specialities, and the family home was called "The Vineyards." James's son, Joseph Watts Church (1849-1925, m. Bessie Helen Gayford) continued in the business for a while following James' retirement, but he went to Canada about 1910, settling near Stavely, Alberta. I'd be delighted to hear from anyone connected with this family.
