John Reavil - Barnham Broom
Looking for descendants of John Reavil b. 1804 in Barnham Norfolk the son of William Reavil of Newark in Notts. Both father and son were soldiers and ended up as Chelsea Pensioners in Wollwich in Kent in the 1840 -1870s. Both were described as swarthy and sallow on soldiers records. Very interested in the origins of the name. Any connection with French Huguenots or and earlier French connection via the lace trade? I have copies of soldiers documents for relations.

Rector of Barnham Broom from 1567 to 1623. One of his sons, Dr Richard Palgrave, emigrated to America in 1630. Three U.S. Presidents are among his descendants. So far no details of the Rector' wife have been established but there may be a possible connection with the Webb family of Carlton Forhoe

Robert WALPOLE (1805-1885)married Phyllis GRAY (1811?-1893)in England. They came to Canada in 1837-40 and maybe from Barton Turf & Neatishead, Nfk. They had two living children accompany them to Canada: Maria + Ann Sarah born in 1830's. Robert's parents might have been Richard WALPOLE + Hester COLE. Phyllis's parents might have been Robert GRAY + Elizabeth SPANTON. Does anyone recognize these people? Relative would like more info on them. Thanks.

The earliest mention of this family in the parish records is 1699 when Mary, daughter of Richard & Elizabeth Tubby, was baptised. The last entry that I have found is the burial of Elizabeth Tubby age 80 in 1843. Several generations were frequent witnesses to other families who married in the parish church.

He was born in Saham Toney in 1796, moved to Kerdistone Aylsham for the 1851 census. They had daughters ELEANOR, born Shipdham, SARAH, born Saham Toney, and a possible son Philip Fuller Boughen who died in Swaffham.

James Howard b Hassingham c1787 (1851 farmer of 30 Acres in Beighton) had an older wife but seemingly fathered two children (William married Susannah Gilbert) by his dairymaid Maria Spooner finally marrying her in 1865 after the death of his poor wife. Her children gave all their children the middle name of Howard (inc my GGM Ellen Maria Howard Spooner). There was a 40 year age difference but he lived for four years after the wedding...it must have been the doorstep gossip for years but impressive that he actually married her. Any other info?
