Seeking details of my Grandmother Gertrude Maude Swindell and her sister Florence Maria. Gertrude was born in Great Yarmouth 1885 and married 1906, by which time she had changed her name to Shorten(her mother`s maiden name).Their parents were William J Swindell & Mary Ann Shorten but as yet I have not found a marriage. Florence was born inPeckham ,London, 1881.In 1891 Census they are both living with their Grandmother Mary Ann Shorten, an uncle, Samuel an aunt Maria their Step father Thomas William Presland and their half sister Maria, in Great Yarmouth. Their mother had married given birth to Maria and died all in the first three months of 1891. There is no sign of their father William J Swindell. Gertrude & Florence parted company one day going to school in 1891 and never saw each other again! Gertrude died in 1983.

Does anyone know the name of the mother of SARAH ANN KEY born c. 1816 in Clerkenwell,London? According to her marriage certificate, Sarah's father was JAMES PESTELL a glazier. In 1842 when employed as a weaver Sarah married ROBERT FRANCIS SAUL at St Nicholas, Gt Yarmouth. They married from Row 36. Gt Yarmouth, and then lived in SMALLBURGH where Robert's parents lived, and had two daughter, Sarah and Georgeana Elizabeth (married Stephen Cox).

John Sampson b. c 1827 in Mendham (near Norfolk/Suffolk border), died Yarmouth 1904, His mother was Jochabed Sampson (nee Tipple). Also Sarah Ann Spanton dau of Thomas Spanton of Gt Yarmouth. She was born c 1825 and died in 1882.Her children include Sarah, Sophia, John William. I should like to hear from any one with connections to these families.

Just received more info on this lady. Catherine C Hardiment was the mother of the lady Annie Maud Hardiment and we believe this is the family we are looking for. Catherine C Hardiment was b Gr Yarmouth abt 1855 and in 1881 census she had another daughter Catherine V Hardiment b abt 1877. Annie was b much later abt 1889 and was 12yrs old on the 1901 cenus I have just viewed. My Greatgrandfather, George Henry Edward Poulton, aka Angerstein, was born at this address on 8 September 1870. He was the illegitimate son of Rachael Poulton and George Ovenden. The local library has provided me with a street map and on the 1885 OS map Providence Place is on the east side of Russell (Street or Road, missing from map) just north of Trafalgar Terrace which in turn is north of Bath Hill Terrace. If anyone has any information as to the ownership or occupancy of the house/s I would love to hear from them.

Williams, Chemist Shop, Great Yarmouth - Great Yarmouth
Charles Edward Williams, 38 St. Peter's Road, had a Chemist shop from about1900. He died in 1924. In 1929 the shop was called Williams and Baxter. Charles had a son George and a daughter, Teresa Bessie but I can find no further information about them. Can anyone help? I have been searching for 25 years trying to find a living descendant of the Williams family who lived in Buckland in Berkshire from about 1800 to 1903.

He married Hannah Watts and had daughters: Jane Emily b 1857 at Row 102 Yarmouth, Ellen Jane abt 1860 and Kate about 1862. Think there may also have been a son John Harper Smith. Ellen Jane Smith married Alfred Nash. In both the 1861 and 1871 census the girls are boarding with an Elizabeth Hannible.

I would welcome contact with the descendents of the following John Cooke BUNN 1779-1845 and Elizabeth BROOKS 1794-1875 a widow at the time of their marriage in 1836. I suspect John had been previously married, although no mention is made in the parish register. Elizabeth BROOKS had 2 sons from her first marriage - John BROOKS b 1826 in Ireland and married Sarah Ann from Martham / Hemsby. Robert BROOKS b 1828 in Cork Ireland - Robert was a Chelsea Pensioner in 1871 so would be ex army. I suspect John and Roberts father was in the army and severed in Ireland. John BUNN and Elizabeth BROOKS had one child Frances BUNN although there is no record of a marriage she produced 5 children - 3 survived infancy Alice b1860 (married Walter Rainer PITT) Harry Robert John b1862 Blanche Elizabeth b1870 (married Christopher Barwick) Alice BUNN also had a daughter Rosina Frances b1870, insome census's she is listed as her grandmother Frances daughter. Rosina married Samuel Shorten WADE.
