I am trying to trace information on Edith Miriam Edwards. She was the biological mother of my uncle who was adopted by my grandparents in 1938. His birth was registered as 10 November 1934 and the mother was Edith Miriam Edwards of Great Ellingham (General Domestic servant). No father was listed. My uncle was born in Cades Hill House in Attleborough (which I have found out was a home for unmarried girls to give birth, linked to Wayland Infirmary). I am trying to find out any information relating to my gt gt grandfather Henry Bird and his wife Mary. They had one daughter and three sons. Marianne b.1816 Thomas b.1824 Robert b.1826 and Henry b.1833 respectively. Henry my gt grandfather married Hannah Lincoln (born Great Ellingham) in Attleborough Parish Church 1854. They had a son Edward (born 1854)who died within a few weeks of being born. They later had a daughter Clara (born 1867).Henry originated we believe from Attleborough in Norfolk.Henry, Hannah & Clara moved to Great Hockham and started a threshing machine business in 1868.Hannah died in 1884 and Henry re-married. His new wife was Elizabeth Brett (born Carbroke). Their children were Arthur Bird my grandfather b.1886 and Ellen Maud Bird b.1889. Henry died in 1911 and the business then became my grandfather's. Arthur Bird was married to Florence Ida Davey. I think Florence came from the village of Caston in Norfolk. Florence died in 1970 and Arthur in 1973. Recently we visited Great Hockham to try to trace some of our ancestors. We found three of the Matthews family on the War Memorial within the churchyard, and three Matthews graves. Does anyone know where we may purchase one of these books?

MARY RUDRUM or RUDDERHAM
- Great Plumstead
A Mary Rudrum is born here in 1809, natural daughter of Mary Rudrum. No father listed. Unusually, not refered to as a base child. She marries John Seely in Postwick. Mary's mother appears to have married Robert Smith in 1817 and then both moved to Postwick. The census claims she was born in New Buckenham - if this is the right Robert and Mary Smith. Any help gratefully welcome. Could her surname be a mis-hearing of roterham, accents and all unfamiliar to a nicely spoken parson?

I have an interest in James and Elizabeth Andrews; he was a shoemaker and came from Horsford, she was Elizabeth Ramm from Moreton or Attlebridge. They lived in Gothic Cottage and had several sons. Some of these went on to be master millers in Attleborough; others ended up in London. One Horace became the rural postman and a draper in Witchingham and married Ellen Arthurton. Anyone else interested in this family. James and Elizabeth are buried in the churchyard at Great Witchingham church.
