William Shakespere, son of Mary Flanigan - Boston
Mary Flanigan, born in the mid-1820s, gave birth to a son, William Shakespere, prior to her marriage to Michael Flanigan. The son was born around 1848, in Tipperary, Ireland, according to the 1871 Census for Butterwick, Lincs., and was described as an 'Idiot'. By 1881, the family is living in Doncaster, but he and mum are missing. I suspected that mum had died and he'd been dumped in a workhouse because he'd become an encumbrance. A search revealed a William Shakespeare in the Boston Union workhouse in Skirbeck Road, Boston, but he is described as being born in 'Calcutta, 1846', so I'm not sure if it's definitely the same individual. There was no mention of his being an 'Idiot'. Can I find out when this individual was brought to the workhouse, and who left him there? This may also help to enlighten me as to why (if he is our man)he was put in the workhouse in Boston, so far away from his step-father and half-brothers. I can only suppose there might have been other Flanigans in the area. Any info gratefully received.
