1891 - Missing Wilsons
- Moulton
I've been doing some research into my Great Great Grandfather who was James Edwin Smith who was born in Whaplode c1858 and died on 26 Nov 1943. James was married to a Dorothy Ann Wilson who was born c1860 in Moulton and died on 11 June 1937.
On the1881 Census I have found a family of Wilsons who lived in Cobgate Lane, Moulton. There are two Joseph Wilsons described as the Head of the family and one must be Dorothy's father and I am guessing that the younger one is actually Dorothys brother. The brother was married to a woman called Phoebe and on the 1901 census they are both resident in Moulton. Now the 3 sons of Phoebe and Joseph end up in Warwickshire in 1901 so I am supposing that the Wilsons packed their bags after Dorothy married James which would be after the 1881 census and only returned after the 1891 census when their sons were all employed in the West Midlands industries.
Joseph and Phoebe also had a daughter called Hannah. On the 1901 census there are only two references to a Hannah aged 35 who was born in Moulton, Lincs. The two names I have are Hannah Ogden who had moved to Peterborough and Hann...

Surprise!!
- Moulton
Further to my posting about the missing Wilsons I have some further information on the James Edwin Smith mentioned within.
I moved to Moulton just over a year ago and I was surprised to find that the previous occupants had left a bunch of papers andlegal documents on the house which went back nearly 90 years. Now, I wasn't really interested in them at the time so I just put them in a draw and forgot about them. Anyhow, when I started looking at my family tree and after discovering more about the Moulton connection I decided to have a look at the document. The first name I saw caught me by surprise because it was that of James Edwin Smith. I'm not sure if it is the James Edwin who married the Wilsons or not as they called their first son James Edwin but it definately did surprise me that the house I moved to was on land that my family owned some 90 or so years ago. Further to that I have now noticed that the house 3 doors from me has a plaque on it which says J.E.S. and the date 1919.The house is called Victory House and I suppose that was because it was commissioned just after World War I had been concluded.
Sometimes family history can be a lot closer than you think!!
