Hastings Connections
- East Keal
Yes, indeed, William Hastings was father to Robert Hastings, Rector of East Keal, Lincolnshire Church. Hastings were a fine family that had been in GB since the Norman Invasion. Some of them were related to William the Conqueror. Indeed, the name "Hastings" was first given to Robert d'Hastings, son of Ralph d' Venoix, of Normandy, one of the victorious conquerors during the Battle of Hastings, 1066 AD.
Incidently, at the Anglican Church in East Keal, the Rector was Robert Hastings, circa 1600 AD. In the stained glass, the little lions with their tongues sticking out indicate fierceness.
Probably a Norman Invasion thing.
