Elisha Jackson - Hinckley
Great grandfather Elisha Jackson, born 4 Jun 1851 in Burbage near Hinckley. Any information regarding Elisha, who married Selina Toon in Leicester on 26 June, 1870 where he remained - as far as we know, would be much appreciated. His birth certificate shows the spelling Elishua, but he appears as Elisha on all subsequent documents. His daughter, Ethel, had an illegitimate son, Frank (born 8 Jan 1911) and although her parents then lived at 197 Birstall Street, Leicester, Frank's birth certificate records an address of 148 Tomkinson Road, Stockingford, Nuneaton - AN ADDRESS THAT 1911 CENSUS DOES NOT RECOGNISE! This looks as if Ethel has gone/been sent to relatives to give birth. Are any Jackson's in the area in 1911? Any clues would be much appreciated. Greg

Payne Family - Hinckley - Hinckley
I have some details on my Payne family tree for the Hinckley area going back from the late 1700's to the late 1900's, but the information is very sketchy. For many people I have only the links between them, first names and dates of birth, but hopefully someone out there can help link into the family somehow. The information partly came from an old family bible (not in my posession but I trust the information) and also research done over the past 30 years. The oldest members listed are: Gen 1: James Payne who married Rachel Lamb (no dates) Gen 2: They had a son James Payne (1782-1844) who married Ann Wood (1781-1866). Also had a daughter Ann (1787-?). Gen 3: James/Ann Payne had 13 children - Benjamin (1805-?), Hannah (1807-?), Thomas (1809-1811), George (1811-?), Thomas (1813-1899), Samuel (1815-1889), Peter (1817-1844), Charlotte (1819-1897), Charles (1821-?), Emma (1824-?), James (1826-1899), Henry (1828-?), Daniel (1830-?). Eleven of these children were baptised in Hinckley. Benjamin's son James was known as James of Bruntingthorpe. Benjamin's sons Arthur and Thomas were possibly gunsmiths, top of Castle St. Hinckley. Thomas (1813-1899) was a pioneer of steam (1855) at the Hinckley Hosiery factory. He retired to Dawlish. The grandaughters of Samuel Payne (1815-1889), Lizzie and Eva were school mistresses at Nailstone. Does this mean anything to anyone? I have spent the past year trying to find connections in Leicestershire via the web, but have not had any luck so far. I do have a lot more names in this chart, but these are the earliest ones and also have at least birth dates for most of the people I listed.
