Dr William Brown Thain - Liverpool
William Brown Thain, a Doctor qualified in Edinburgh in 1897 married Mary Mercer in 1910. Their son, Stuart Grenville Thain was born in Dyserth, N Wales later in 1910. Mary was 22 and pregnant when they married, W B Thain was 39 and previously married to Marion Jane Flood nee Sproule with at least one son,William Brown Reginald Flood Thain, born to his wife in 1900 and a daughter, Kathly Monica Tayleur Thain born to another woman, unknown, 6.6.1900 in Scotland and raised in Stobhall Castle. Mary and Thain at some point divorced and by 1930 she is living as a housekeeper to a 'Colonel' in Sussex, possibly Surrey. We know he travelled around the country being registered in N Wales, Manchester and Birmingham as well as London where he was a General Practitioner in 1901. We do not know how he and Mary met or the grounds for the divorce. Stuart was great friends with his cousin Christopher Mercer in Liverpool. Christopher later joined the army as a career soldier but we don't know what happened to Stuart. Mary retired back to Liverpool where I remember visiting her in a high rise in the late 50's, early 60's. Thain was awarded the Ashanti medal around 1901, stamped Gold Coast Constabulary. Do you have any info at all on the families mentioned? Jean
