Rodgers - Audenshaw
I would like to find out any information on the Rodgers family of Audenshaw. I think Alf Rodgers born 1863 in Fairfield was a laundry proprietor on Denton Road about 1914 onwards and his wife was Mary. His sons were Walter,Alf,Norman(professional footballer for Stockport County and Blackburn Rovers) Harry and Arthur. Think Alf senior ran the laundry with his younger brother William who had connections with Richmond Confectionery and his son in law Francis McCarthy. Many thanks Diane

Looking for information about James Holmes, born approx 1798 in Aughton, occupation silk dresser. Married Hannah from Gorrgate (Galgate?) Lan and had following children: James and John (both born Gorrgate and silk dressers), then Elizah, Jane and Ellen (all born Stockport, Chs) then Hannah, Mary Ann and Charles (all born Sowerby, Yks). Son John was my g-g-g-grandfather and his son George moved to Radford, Nottingham (and was also a silk dresser)

James married Elizabeth Ann NUTTALL and they had a daughter, Annie Lord who was born in Bacup on the 4th June 1869. There addresses on the marriage certificate show James at Newchurch Road,Bacup and Henrietta at Lower Rockcliffe, Bacup. They both worked in the Cotton Mills.Any information about these two persons or their respective Father's, Henry Lawrence Cowling or William Sellars, would be appreciated.

I have a studio photo of Miss Mary TATTERSALL and Miss Ethel NUTTAL taken at Bacup in 1913 and sent with Christmas greetings to my grandmother (Pathania Alice MARSDEN) in Western Australia. She had emigrated the year before, and I assume these are friends, although Mary is probably a relative as Tattersall was her mother's maiden name). I would be pleased to find out any more details of these young ladies.

My grandfather Fred Hindle, son of Henry (Harry)Hindle b 1840 and Mary Greenwood, married Bertha Rushton, daughter of Joseph Rushton and Esther Sutcliffe. The Rushtons were quite prominent in business (John Rushton & sons, Slate Merchants of Lee Mill, Bacup) and local politics and were freemasons in the 1890s.
